It is World of WARcraft. You pick a side. You fight against the other side. You need a writer? Hire me. I can come up with several thousands of hours of story that fits within the story. I am so sick of this “let’s team up to kill this PVE baddie”.
I mean you might as well remove factions at this point and let humans make their homes in Orgrimmar and Orcs into Stormwind. This grey middle ground thing you keep running with is such hot stinky garbage writing of a 5 year old mind.
Pick a lane. I don’t care which but commit to either having peace between the Horde and Alliance, or restart the actual war. The way you have it now is totally stupid and makes no sense.
This game hasn’t had “war” apart of it since BFA my dude. And before that it was only ever there in the background. Turn Warmode on if you have such a hard on for PvP. Not everyone is the same. A lot of us want to be able to play with the other faction since vanilla, We have friends on both sides.
I have tons of fan fiction. Yes I am that guy. I would just like to see it go one way or the other. Where we end the war between horde and alliance or get back into fighting each other and hating each other. The cinematic where the dwarf woman was in love with the troll warmed my heart.
No no no nooo ugh every time it comes back it feels more trite, especially when we pay lip service to it then instantly team up with a bunch of random Important NPCs from both factions.
It seems like you’re coming at this from a story-driven perspective. I don’t believe that notion is the best way to make an MMORPG. For example, if in-game mechanics were based on story, certain classes would just be way weaker than others.
The fact of the matter is, a game studio would be shooting itself in the foot if it released an MMO in 2023 where players had to arbitrarily choose a faction and weren’t allowed to play with the other faction at all.
absolutely nobody is saying that you shouldnt be able to pick both factions, I am saying story wise, pick a lane where we either end the war or go back to fighting.
My issue is that it’s felt like we have been waving a purple flag with both logos that say FoR AzErOtH since… Wrath, maybe even BC.
The Alliance and Horde haven’t felt honestly, truly at war since Vanilla because the NPCs keep going on super best friend adventures with us and justifying it with grumbles and “just this once” “a truce” “we must stand together” Like, fine. If Thrall and Jaina want to make out while Aggra’s with the orclings that’s their business. But with that going on, all the neutral zones, DOA world pvp…I’m glad the story has finally stopped pretending.
I never said anything about not being able to pick both factions. Are you reading my replies? My position is that removing in-game cross faction PVE like raiding and M+ is just a bad move from a business / gameplay perspective. It negatively impacts players greatly, and I don’t think there is any lore-based reason to justify that separation.
I like the truce, the Faction War hasn’t made sense since MoP, IMO. I actively thought the entire premise of BFA was stupid, even before they ended up changing directions halfway through. Plus now, we can actively raid and quest with the opposite faction so… I like the idea of them being at an uneasy truce.
Edit: Thinking over it, there isn’t really much they CAN go to. Outside of being outright allies.
It’s world of WARcraft, not world of FACTIONWARcraft. We still go to war every single xpac. We’ve been fighting big baddies that are neither faction (like in Ahn’Qiraj) since classic.
OP. Nothing is stopping you from going to that gulch and fighting over a flag and pretending it has some kind of deep strategical purpose. You go camp that lumber mill in a basin and tell yourself you’re doing the needed work of a true hero of your faction.
Meanwhile, the rest of us will actually be off saving the world/universe/reality/existence.
