Going through squishes feels bad. It feels even worse when we go through squishes to fix “stat and item level inflation”, only for Blizz to turn around and put more inflation into the game.
We went up somewhere around 180 iLvls through SL already. Did we really need a 130 iLvl jump between the end of SL and beginning of DF?
We’re staring down the barrel of yet another squish within the next expansion or two at this rate, faced with the same problems yet again.
Can we just knock it off with the iLvl inflation and stop having us “go backwards” in an RPG?

The war king give me POOWAAHH.
lol.
This is to feed our inner beast. We cant appreciate content…well this game usually hasnt got any interesting content of late. So we need the placebo to keep ourselves interested. Feeling more powerful…seeing meaningless numbers go up…thats our high and why we keep playing the game.
Well, except for those who play the game for more permanent things like mogs and mounts and pets, that is.
of course we are…and a game wide one will be coming soon enough because of how stupidly they did the last one.
The entire old game SHOULD have been scaled exactly the same instead of this joke of kalimor being to 30 and other zones to some other number. It was just a guarantee that theyd have to squish ALL of it again soon enough.
Now that theyve turned to scaling, they need to do it right. yes, its going to upset some players, but its for the BEST interest of this game long term to do it right.

How many alts do you use to post on the forums?
You need therapy.

I think the upsetting part is how they’ve had 4 or 5 years to get it right and they’ve failed thus far, especially with various forms of older content became significantly harder after the last squish and the botched scaling that has remained in place. It doesn’t build confidence that it’ll ever be done right.

Honestly? It probably won’t be. Blizzard keeps changing their design paradigm so even when they plan ahead, they change their minds about what they had planned anyways and end up flying by the seat of their pants in this regard anyways.

You would rather not grow more powerful each expansion?
idk…feels bad. But the squish felt bad also…but it was what 15 years in the making?

Just think, we could have been level 140 with ilvl in the 1200s if Blizzard hadn’t been cowards.

This.
People like to harp on “too many raid difficulties” for ilvl inflation, but the single largest cause is the overnight ilvl jump between one expansion and the next.
And it’s silly, too. There’s no reason for tiers to have a 100+ ilvl gap between them like that.
Just looking at BfA vs. Shadowlands, for example:
Uldir’s Heroic bosses drop mostly ilvl 60
Dazaralor’s Heroic bosses drop mostly ilvl 72
Eternal Palace’s Heroic bosses drop mostly ilvl 85
Nyalotha’s Heroic bosses drop mostly ilvl 115
Castle Nathria’s Heroic bosses drop mostly 213 ilvl ← THIS IS YOUR INFLATION SOURCE

Yeah, I don’t know why they have such massive jumps.
With 311 being the max item level right now, I don’t see why heroic DF dungeons couldn’t be like 315.
The people in 311 gear right now aren’t the target audience for heroic dungeons, so they could basically just do them a few times, start on mythic0s and start raiding.

Expansions are meant to be gear resets. Without the massive ilvl jump, you’d be expected to go back and farm Sepulcher tier sets and weapons because their unique effects would make them better than anything in the first DF tier.

If Heroic dungeons dropped 315 gear, that’s still a gear reset.
Also, gear resets never amount to anything. The same people that are ahead now, will be ahead a week after Dragonflight starts. The same people that are behind now, and saying “gosh I wish we had a gear reset so I could catch up”, will be behind a week after Dragonflight starts.

Not for anyone that played this patch. Your tier set bonus is worth about 50-75 ilvls at least.
It sounds like you want horizontal progression instead of vertical, which is fine, just go play a game that has that instead.
Just made a new character for the xp event and it’s the first fresh alt I’ve brought through. The ilvl jump from dungeon gear in pre-SLs (ilvl54) to the required ilvl for a SL dungeon (ilvl80) that drops ilvl98 pieces for a level 50 character. Is that… necessary? That is a hell of a jump for leveling content.
They could remove a lot of air from this system to postpone the inevitable squish.
I get that you’re confused but current tier set bonuses are better than even the first tier of DF so you would likely not replace much gear by the end of the first tier if the gear wasn’t a much higher ilvl.
They’ve already disabled legendaries outside of SL on PTR. No reason they can’t just disable tier sets as soon as you’re level 61.
HFC’s Ret tier set was so good, it got completely removed when Legion hit, because it was BiS even with an over 100 ilvl gap.

It’s a symptom of having 4 difficulties, and having item levels jump from a boss to boss basis

It’s really not though. LFR and Normal might as well not exist at all at this point, they’re so under everything else. We really get around 26 ilvl bumps between tiers, Mythic jumps ahead 2 difficulties worth.

Hence why the gap is in place. I don’t like disabling old tier set bonuses, they help you level and are good for timewalking D:
You’re suggesting that if we took my tier bonus and slapped it on a set of 225 gear, that I’d somehow be on par with that 225 gear (with tier bonus) than I would with 300 without.
Except that all my tier does is give more health and damage, and a small amount of healing.
I’d do more damage, and have more health, with that 300 gear than I would with that 225, though.
It’s an absurd notion.
