Frustrating to play a tank and then a DPS with way more gear comes, rips aggro and gets destroyed by mobs melee in keys. Feels extremely unfun to play like this. Dragonflight aggro wasn’t this awful. Can you please fix this? Thanks.
A bunch of people are gonna come in here and tell you it’s impossible to pull threat off a tank, ever.
It’s not nearly as bad as S2 but it’s still a thing for sure.
Since the 10x modifier haven’t run into issues but I can see why it might happen, as you’re group if someone cape just goes off it can sometimes get aggro.
Will they bring us to Dragonflight levels? Unlikely, tanking was fun then.
Funny that you’re posting this on a level 10 character instead of your tank.
I think if you’re playing with equally geared/skilled players, the only time you’re really ever going to see dps get melee’d is within the first 2-3 GCDs of a big pull if they go a little crazy and you (as the tank) didn’t get your burst off in time. Most times a good aoe smack and a single taunt will fix the rest of the pull and it’ll stay good the rest of the time.
That said, a bit of gear disparity can definitely cause a bit of worry if the person is (say) 10+ item levels ahead of you, a meta class, and they pop all CDs and get some really nasty crits, you can definitely have 1-2 straggler mobs that are just convinced they have to murder that dpser. I usually just think “well done, random dpser, I gotta step up my game” and leave it at that.
I’m not gonna complain if my tank threat is buffed, but I think it is pretty carefully and reasonably tuned right now.
Nah, I was going to come in and tell the OP that a DPS pulling threat off them and subsequently dying is the DPS’ fault.
Why would they do this? Making tank and healer as miserable as possible is what they want. Making any content to take as long as possible to be done is what their goal is, if there is tons of tanks and healers people will not be waiting so long in queue for them to show up, instead if there is a lack of tanks and healers people will spend more time in game cause of the queue time waiting for tanks and healers, making the time required to finish anytime way longer.
So ya, if anything they will most likely gonna nerf tank threat / damage / mitigation even more in midnight.
Doesn’t mean im wrong. Point stands.
Ha, yeah right. totally okay to struggle with aggro. Really feels like if a tank (especially blood DK or guardian druid) is using every single aoe at their disposal(and appropriate dps cooldowns, if available), they should not lose aggro no matter what. Having it happen discourages tanking altogether, at least for me. It’s something i truly despise.
Agreed that a big reason of the tank shortage is that tanking feels pretty miserable, and the tank aggro issue is a pretty big problem contributing to this.
Doesn’t mean that you’re right either.
You haven’t said when the issue happens, what class are you playing, what are you doing and how are they pulling threat either.
The fact that you hide your character when posting this means that you’re afraid of being judged based on your performance or whatever situation that can be observed through your key history.
Doesn’t matter how much they buff it, DPS isn’t going to let you even touch half the mobs before popping CDs.
But my parses!!!
So many words for essentially pretending there isn’t an aggro issue. Nice. I play primarily druid bear and DK tank. And the issue is so obvious its not even funny. Despite doing the recommended opening rotations for those tank specs, i always find myself losing aggro to dps with more gear than my tanks or that happens to be meta and burst damage like crazy at full. It makes tanking stressful and unfun.
How is this supposed to be okay? It isn’t, and pretending its okay makes you as tone-deaf as the devs who approved of this trash tuning for tank aggro. The only times it doesn’t happen is when a hunter or rogue is in the group, and that shouldn’t be a requisite to make tanking not stressful.
99% of the time isn’t.
OK let’s pick Blood DK.
It definitely isn’t. And I come from long-term Blood DK playing and got through some bad time when any class would rip aggro from you even mid pack. Today we have much better tools.
Here is the thing:
Recommended rotation is for best case scenarios, and unless you have everything perfectly lined up for a perfect placement of your DnD, that you can use everything at your disposal that you need, that will not work.
In between packs I never lose aggro, or have any issues with threat.
I play Deathbringer, but I’ve done keys as SL too (it feels a bit not fun tbh).
The optimal open rotation most of the time will not work if you try to follow it in situations where you’re grabbing mobs from right and left to prepare your pull.
Without a very specific situation I can’t tell you how to resolve it. If you tell me that you’re SL it will probably answer my questions. As Deathbringer, I use Reaper’s Mark ASAP to have a empowered Marrowrend + Soul Reaper. These will boost your threat in any group of mobs you’re tanking, followed by a blood boil then Consumption. If you’re SL, you don’t have RM, you don’t have Extermination being cast right after your marrowrend and you hold your Consumption to use at 4-3 last seconds of your DRW. You also just blood boil ONCE during your DRW and wave Vampiric Strike / Death Strikes during DRW.
My suggestion is for you to bring your struggles / scenarios to Acherus discord and ask for help in the simple QA or Blood main discussion.
Try doing some higher keys before saying all this. The keys level that you r doing is +12 and under, and this key range and this late into the season those DPSer is just avg player who don’t really do anything to threaten the tanks.
There isn’t an aggro issue. What you’re experiencing is a combination of dps unloading too early into pulls and a skill issue on your end. If a dps starts nuking mobs while you’re still trying to gather, that’s on them. Let them die. Eventually they’ll learn. If dps are ripping threat once the pull is established, that’s on you, and you need to look into optimizing your rotation and/or gear for more damage.
First of all, that’s not the case of OP. He’s not doing keys at that level, or at least he would’ve said so.
Second, I didn’t say there aren’t aggro issues, I just said that in 99% of the time there isn’t. Are you trying to say that there are some situations where aggro can be a problem? Because that I also think the same.
What do you really want to say?
I haven’t had aggro issues on elemental this season but you could pull aggro easily 10-15s into a giga list pull last season as enhancement quite easily.
But you had to do good DPS for that to happen.
Some tank clasess have “snap” aggro and can get threat on 10+ mobs near-instantly, while other tank classess need a few seconds to get the same level of aggro. That seems like a discrepancy worth fixing in the class-designs, but until all tank classes can equally generate “snap” aggro, it’s on the DPS to constantly switch targets to as not to get threat on any mobs in a big pull.
I’m guilty of ripping aggro from a friend that tanks on a Vengeance DH by focusing the first mob down while cleaving onto all others without waiting 2-4 sec, yet I don’t have to wait at all for a different friend that tanks on a prot pally (cuz he has “snap” aggro).
Who cares? Just put the pitchforks away. He can have this discussion without posting on his tank. Besides. How do you know he doesn’t have multiple tanks?
