Blood - Increased Threat, Improved the healing/bubble of Death Strike
Frost - Improved damage, Reduced Threat
Unholy - Improved Haste, Improved Movement Speed, Reduced Threat
After doing some reading, it appears the presences have changed a bit over time before they were removed. What I liked about them was that it provided a way for Death Knights to change their Presence to fit the situation.
Did you need to offtank something for a moment? Blood Presence. (Assuming you were dps)
Did you need to hit harder? Frost Presence.
Did you need to move during mechanics? Unholy Presence.
You get the idea.
I was fond of the fluidity of the Presence system. I’d be okay if they need to be different than they once were, but I like having these options for engaging a challenge.
These are questions from an old player that’s come back (left during Cata for non-game related reasons).
Perhaps the Presence system can come back, either baseline or as a talent row?
What do other players think about this?
Presences certainly functioned quite a bit differently by the time they got removed, but I get the gist of what you’re getting across.
Personally? I would definitely like to see presences return, or at the very least the animation/sound of activating the specific presences. There is something very iconic for me about those visuals as a DK.
BUUUUUT I know realistically we’re not getting them back. The reality is that most players sat in their spec’s respective presence and never left it. 99% of the time the only time you changed presences was if you were Blood or Frost and wanted the extra movement speed from Unholy for a run-back after a wipe, or if you PvP’d or the tank died and needed the extra survival from Blood.
Especially since Blizz has mentioned not wanting to bring back Warrior stances, so I doubt DK presences is on the list, even though I personally would like to see them return, along with the old rune system.
idk, the presences can come back but what i dont want back is the old 3 type of runes for spell stuff…2 holy runes,2 ice runes and 2 blood runes, those i hope never come back
If it was a row of talents, then a player would have to choose between them. I prefer the old way where they worked like stances, but a talent choice would provide a compromise of sorts. The compromise might be that you only get the presence that we choose in our talents. And with the Tome of the Quiet Mind we could change these between fights if needed.
It was much more complex, that’s for sure. Some rune abilities used one rune of each color, and that was definitely harder to work into what you were doing.
It was tricky to find a good rhythm so the runes you want didn’t stay on cooldown too long and you also had to watch rune power so you didn’t waste any over the cap.
I believe Paladin Auras are being considered, and so I thought it would be appropriate to bring up Presences as a topic.
Presences were a bit of Stance and a bit of Aura in how they worked. There was even a talent deep in the original talent trees that allowed a party/raid to gain an effect from a specific presence (like a Paladin Aura).
if a talent i would want all 3 in 1.make it on the survivality row. if they’re base again then make a talent that beefs them up like improved presenses
Presences would be just another layer on top of active abilities we already have to do things like temporarily increase speed, defensive stats, offensive stats, etc. In other words, you already have the effect of the presences but in new forms.
Adding them back would be just taking a step back to a form of the game that invalidated systems as it grew but kept them around with some tweaks just for the sake of keeping them around. Getting rid of them was good.
i had a thread in the legion forum where i had 2 whole post of links to threads complaining bout WW
Presences and Wod DA worked 24/7 never didnt workd, never needed to be life gripped, never got kicked for my speed, never had to pay to make it work, never got stuck on anything.
they broke something that was fine to begin with and that aint right
I see what your saying. We have these effects, but they feel clunky to me. It’s the gameplay that I don’t like, not the effects themselves. That is to say, I don’t actually need the presences back the way they were, but rather I’d compromise with something like presences (2.0) because it seems more interesting (based off what I’ve experienced before).
Another thing I realized as I was thinking about your reply was the Global Cooldown change. If that were reverted, I think a lot of what I call clunky would be solved. So it may be that we have classes designed without the current Global Cooldown rule in mind.
I think they need to slow down and consider what their vision actually is. Then I think they can find something that works way better than what we have now. But if they can’t, then I’m going to have to ask for what I prefer in this period before the next expansion.
I remain optimistic, and I’m going to play the new expansion with an open mind.
They did that for pvp before the GCD nerf. They said pvp was to fast paced and this was an effort to slow it down. Now we have 30m 3s matches into 50% damp.
I really hope SL saves this game, but if wishing for venders for pvp taught me anything, it’s that blizzard doesnt give a crap what the community wants.
I do miss presences. Seeing a DK flip presence was a sign of a player who wasn’t fully braindead and reacted to what was happening.
It didn’t have a massive impact on things (except for blood letting you take a hit), but it was fun and gave you that little boost for whatever you were trying to do.
