Can we have eclipse mechanic back for Moonkins?

Any iteration, really. Anything would be more interesting than build-spend baseline.

Moonkin was my main during cataclysm (and only then), i had a lot of fun.

It seems you got your wish. You and the lazy devs. Enjoy! [flies off to other classes, not looking back]

Why did you neco a post from 27 days ago to take a shot at someone?

yeah, it’s better to spam three abilities without any mechanics

Personally, I hated the eclipse mechanic and I like how my boomkin plays now much better (not perfect, but better). Guess my druid is shelved in Shadowlands. Which is fine. I play too many alts anyway and druid has never been, like, main level for me.

gluing warrior rage bar to every caster (except mage) and demon hunter was laziest thing devs ever done. Shadow priest, moonking, elem sham, all warlock specs are complete garbage because of that

Just wait till your boomie gets passed over, because of ramp up times and having to execute the pendulum perfectly while following increasingly difficult mechanics. This is the exact reason they weren’t desired for most of the game’s life.

I loved MoP Boomkin. The only time I really liked to PvP in RBGs (just low ranked Pugs) and it was a really fun time for me. I didn’t mind the changes, but happy to see Eclipse is coming back!

Eclipse didn’t work the same way in Wotlk (the one we’re getting) as it did in MoP.

If they had ANY sense (which let’s be honest, they don’t) each spec would bring something unique, just like they did in WotLK.

Boomkin’s would bring Boomkin Aura, 5% crit to the raid.
Shadowform would bring Shadow Aura, 5% haste to the raid.

All of the hybrid specs in WotLK worked SO well because they brought so much to the raid. Here’s what Boomkins USE to bring to a raid

  • +3% spell hit
  • +3% haste
  • +5% spell crit
  • +13% spell damage
  • +3% avoidance
  • +5% armor reduction
  • Off-heals
  • Rebirth
  • Innervate
  • Gift of the Wild

But alas, specs have been gutted to husks of their former selves.

All in all, I’m glad to see Balance going BACK to It’s WotLK/MoP era of style. Having Astral Power is stupid, just like Maelstrom for Shamans. Eclipse was a fun mechanic, and it bolstered the two relevant spells (Wrath and Starfire). I’m excited. But I want to see it do the SAME thing it did.

Wrath gets 25% increase damage for the DURATION of Solar Eclipse. Starfire (Lunar Strike) gets 25% increase crit chance and casts 25% faster for the DURATION of Lunar Eclipse.

Right? I also hate the current shadow priest playstyle. This hurts worse than boomkin because shadow priest was a main level spec for me from classic until the changes in Legion. I mean, I was at the AQ gate opening on my priest and now she just makes bags in the garrison.

says the mage lol

All that missing stuff just filled me with nostalgia…

I was extremely handy in raids with my innervate, to the point it rarely had to get called. Probably prevented some wipes.

It’s unclear what they’re going to do. The reference to it being like Wotlk in the class changes worries me. I remember how low dps would get due to short durations of eclipse and the lulls in damage between eclipses, compounded by having to survive mechanics.

Boomies were just awful on fights with heavy moving. One saving grace could be if they allow movement during Starfall. That would be huge and something we didn’t have in Wotlk.

I know, and It’s one of the reasons Boomkins were brought.

That’s why I don’t think they’re going to go as far back as WotLK to where the spec relies on RNG. They’ll go back as far as MoP with the Eclipse Bar, so you know for sure when you’re getting your Eclipses.

So -

Start casting Wrath, your Eclipse Bar fills Lunar Power. Lunar Eclipse procs at 100 (Wrath would probably give 12 power per cast) you then spam Lunar Strike because It’s buffed, and continue to spam it to trigger a Solar Eclipse in which you’ll spam Wrath and the cycle continues

Yeah, if they go back to MoP and not Wotlk (as they stated), I’d be all for it.

But in Wotlk, didn’t Wrath only move the bar right and Starfire moved it left? That’s what I’m dreading. We spammed Starfire to eclipse, then spammed Starfire until eclipse was over. Then we went back to balanced and spammed Wrath until eclipse and repeated. And if you messed up, the bar went the wrong way.

I don’t recall it being the fast back and forth like in MoP. It was very bursty, and that’s what worries me about their specifying Wotlk, not MoP.

During WotLK, there was no Eclipse Bar. You literally started out with Wrath until RNG aligned and you got a Lunar Eclipse, in which you’d immediately start spamming Starfire (Lunar Strike now). You’d then spam Starfire until you got a Solar Eclipse to proc, and would continue the cycle. Both has an internal 12 second CD.

During MoP, it was virtually the same but you no longer relied on RNG, you had an Eclipse Bar and could tell when it would proc what.

And the procs came from the DoTs, right?

But this is what they said:

“Solar and Lunar Empowerments are being strengthened and updated into Eclipses. Reminiscent of past expansions like Wrath of the Lich King , Wrath and Starfire will grant each other alternating Lunar and Solar Eclipses for a longer duration.”

Sounds more proc based. I see no mention of the eclipse bar, but I hope I’m wrong.

Then they mention Astral Powers being situational.

Nope, the procs came from Wrath or Starfire. Wrath triggered Lunar, and Starfire triggered Solar.

It does sound more proc based, so maybe they ARE going as far back as WotLK.

I guess Alpha and Beta will clear it up. Seriously hoping it’s more MoP than Wotlk.
