It would be nice to be a nameless goon wondering around for once.
Well as a horde player you got to be the villain in BfA instead…
but I guess it’s hard for the PC not to be the champion after all of its accomplishments
That 98% of the playerbase did not accomplish.
Classic is like that. You certainly are not a hero.
That’d be kind of hard, now, don’t you think? We’ve been to multiple planets, we’ve fought and defeated gods, demons, you name it. How do you… back down from that?
If you ever get to feeling like a hero, just look around at the other 50 players doing the same exact heroic, world-saving cutscene as you and that will put you in your proper place of one of the unwashed masses.

If I’m helping you, then I’m championing your cause. Champion is a perfectly reasonable term for that.
Now, if you want an expansion where we aren’t the lone hero of a single-player story, that’s different.
Delete everyone’s characters and start from scratch.
There is that.
I don’t know, maybe an expansion where the world isn’t ending. We can work on cleaning up Azeroth. Build some player houses. Focus on professions. Fight the other factions for territorial control.
Too bad! You will be the Savior of Azeroth! and you will like it!
Isn’t there still a giant sword stuck in the middle of it though?
Its just a flesh wound.
And people hate Nathanos for not praising our godship
Because, you know, nameless goons frequently kill dragon aspects, undead armies, old gods, alternate universe armies, the Burning Legion…
I’ve been called hero more than a few times in classic, even been called a renowned doctor for making hundreds of bandages.
Technology develops, tactics improve. Upgrade a “nameless goon” like a warcraft 3 knight with all blacksmith upgrades and watch him solo a neutral pack of ogres.
Also, a raid team is not made up of one people. And were it not for convenience’s sake, I am sure raid teams would have kept their original 40-man design. A little army, pretty much.
You’re a hero through quests anyway, even if you avoid the raids.
I’m an adventurer, a mercenary, or a murderhobo. Not a hero/champion. I haven’t killed anything mythic since WoD, and I haven’t ever been gladiator.
Unless you skipped the Legion questlines, everyone is a world renowned hero and there’s no avoiding that.
