Its kinda crazy to me how you can take every single talent that buffs the damage of wrath, starfire and starsurge and still be so behind catweaving which doesn’t need any talents to do good dps. Can casting be buffed to be an alternative to catweaving? I like keeping my distance and surveying the battlefield
Cat weaving being higher overall makes sense as it’s a larger commitment for dealing dmg + higher risk, but Starfire as keeper on large aoe can absolutely pump. Those instant cast ones can Crit for 3 mil. Wrath and star surge damage could use a little love for sure.
Keeper caster build is easier to pull off and often I find is higher damage overall because of all the extra time spent healing pugs keeps me from committing any time to do damage in cat form.
The dream/oath buffs coming this week should be interesting.
Yea it makes sense its higher reward with being in the middle of the action and all, I just find it strange how I have to commit so many talent points to get all of the boosts for the caster damage to not even be that close to cat
Can you link what build you’re talking about resto druids using that don’t invest just as many points into cat weaving? If all a catweaving druid takes are rake and rip, their DPS is going to be pretty mediocre (they’ll probably get more damage out of sunfire). I suspect you aren’t considering the number of talents catweaving restos are committing to DPS to achieve the numbers you’re seeing.
But more generally, even if you’re right, this outcome makes sense. There is no healing value whatsoever from every cat-enhancing talent resto is taking in order to put out decent DPS, while half the talents you take to increase caster DPS also provide direct healing benefit. There is a higher opportunity cost to take a cat talent because it doesn’t help with healing or survivability.
Holy priest
Holy fire, swp, smite x3 MAYBE 4. Dead even level mob
Resto caster
Surge, moonfire, sunfire, wraith x 3, surge, waprath xe, surge wraith dead even level mob.
Now for the record whn you hit Heart of the Wild, things go nuts and things die QUICKLY. But tbh, 5 min cooldown for mediocre dps for the other 4 min 15 seconds is ludicris.
Just saying Holy priest can lay down some serious pain just playing caster dps but resto druid caster is not even close.
