This is hilarious, given you know, they got in trouble for the loot boxes in Overwatch. And other games got in trouble for ‘predatory practices’ for the same thing. You buy loot boxes to gamble on the odds of getting something.
Whether personally or not YOU might not see it as such, it’s a severely crippling addiction for a lot of people. It’s made a lot of people homeless, it’s also not something that should be actively displayed on a video game where there are kids playing. The fact that the people running the establishment in question/game in question/gambling in question actively harass people who win double their money back, asking for it back, making excuses like ‘that’s all the gold I have, people haven’t paid me yet’, just means it’s a set up for a big pot of bull that doesn’t belong on this game. ETA: I have not partaken in any of it, it’s a waste of time and scam in my opinion, but you can’t help but see the amount of spam when you’re checking alt mail or just hanging out in trade waiting for queues to pop.
Not to mention most of it isn’t IC (addon spam is not IC actions, as it’s auto-generated with input from a player not the operating character with the addon, it’s based on gold-recieved), therefore it violates immersion on a server meant to be IC. Yes, people don’t report it because they’re not particular about it, but it very much is against the TOS.
This is the post you’re ref’ing, and if you think they don’t actively advertise whether it be them posting literally in /s for people to take the risk, will they win or lose, the char’s name LITERALLY being what it is (the action of rolling a dice / the guild name having ‘casino’ in it), and the addon-spam about them WINNING/LOSING, then you’re picking and choosing what you want to fit your narrative.
It’s illegal, and if enough people reported them for it, they’d get the banhammer. They HAVE advertised it. They HAVE harassed people who win. I know a few people who came from off-server (they apparently run these on multiple servers) just the other day, accusing them of stealing their gold. There was a HUGE blow up in Trade in /s about it.
It is illegal, and they are breaking the TOS. And like most things, eventually the trash gets taken out, and someone in the household spots a roach to call in the exterminator.
