Majority of games with any sort of integrity especially online and competitive perma bans or at least 6month/1year ban players that cheat. This includes gold buying, botting, flyhacking, gold selling etc. Banning has been proven to be effective against cheaters.
Why is Blizzard refusing to implement real sanctions on the RMT and cheating in WoW, the game has zero integrity without penalties for cheaters.
Recently even one of the biggest wow streamers(Sodapoppin) got caught buying gold and his account wasnt even suspended. Gold buying has become more accepted then ever with the implementation of token to wow classic and no real sanctions for offenders.
How is it that team of 4 private server devs did a better job fighting cheaters then a multi billion dollar company?
I believe that the pure threat of losing an account permanently would deter majority of cheaters and pay to win players from this behavior. Further more I think not only the account that was involved in the rmt/cheating, but all accounts under that battlenet account should be suspended/perma banned.
Reasons why Blizzard is not doing anything about cheating.
-
They want paycows and whales in their game as much as any other mmo, because these players are the biggest source of profit.
-
Fighting bots costs resources and money and you are effectively losing profit by banning paying players.
-
They dont have any support system, everything is automated.
What has banning gdkps achieved?
-
Most common argument is you reduce demand for gold, but from my experience majority of gdkp players went to gdkps to make gold in the first place.
-
If you print counterfit money irl and then spend them at a auction, does that mean auctions should be banned? Because gdkps were completely in line with ToS, shouldnt we punish the people cheating in the first place?
-
Maybe you right and the demand for gold will go down by banning the most popular loot system for pugs, its just sad that legit players are the one suffering for this.
-
Unfortunately I believe that the main trigger behind gdkp ban was the sheer amount of reports coming in and Blizzard deciding that the best way to reduce the amount of tickets is to ban the system, because otherwise they would have to employ more people to work the support system.
I am honestly worried that rmt and cheating will only increase going forward seeing there are no real sanctions for either one and Blizzard instead of making an example from Sodapoppin makes his behavior look completely acceptable, by not suspending him at all.
I dont really run gdkps or buy gold, but I dont like the integrity of the game being pretty much at 0 since classic launched and I believe that perma bans would be more effective then any other system fighting against cheating and rmt.

Another forum user pointed out that the reason Blizzard doesn’t permaban gold buyers, is that a ramping suspension corrects most bad behavior and a permban just results in those same players buying characters/accounts, causing bigger problems on Blizzard’s end.

u have 2 choices - u can eliminate rmt and gold sinks or u can add gold sinks and sanctioned rmt. combinations of the 2 are going to be dubious at best
That’s a good point, but I dont think ignoring cheaters, because they will find a new way to cheat is a solution. Either way 3day bans don’t deter anyone from buying gold.
As well if you make people buy a whole new account it still will be a bigger deter from cheating. Lot of people get attached to their account and common gold buyers wouldnt take the risk if that means paying for a whole new account that might get banned for account selling, doesnt have their name and in-game achievments.
Temporary bans are more effective than permanent bans, may not seem so at first but blizzard collected data on this. more or less, if you perma ban someone, they make a new account and are more likely to buy gold. A temp ban may strike fear into a person, the person may not want to lose their entire account and progress, and once the ban is up is less likely to buy gold again.
I love how ip theives always show up talking about integrity.
Even if they have something worth saying the irony is deafening.

You covered the reasons right there. That’s why they won’t ban buyers, players that have been subbed for years paying $15 a month and will continue to sub for years to come.
Banning gold buyers loses blizz/activision money.
Spending resources on in game GM’s or better tech to find and ban bots costs a lot of money.
That doesnt make any sense I would never even think about buying gold if there was even a chance of perma ban and I’d imagine more people feel this way.
If it’s a 3day ban I wouldnt worry at all about buying gold.
I dont buy gold out of the principle, but just saying 3day ban I wouldnt mind risking it over and over knowing there are no perma bans.
Exactly.
Spend $10 and get the same amount of gold it would take 10 hours to farm in game and have a 10% chance you get a 2 week ban. That’s why so many do it.

The only reason we have classic is because of IP thieves. Nostalrius was amazing, deff better experience then what we got from Blizzard.

It makes sense because if their entire account gets perma banned, they are more likely to take the risk with a brand new account both because it is fresh, and to attempt to catch up to the progress of their old account. While a temporary ban makes them more likely to walk on eggshells going forward and avoid gold buying again. Like I said, blizzard themselves has apparently looked into this pretty deeply, and this is what they concluded.
any real solution to rmt MUST include at least 6 month suspensions on a first offense for gold buying, preferably just an outright perma
GDKP ban was a good and neccesary first step, but it will not solve the problem.
somehow pservers could manage this with a tiny fraction of the staff blizz has and volunteer gm’s, bit pathetic blizz

Untrue.
We have classic because of Blizz’s lawyers.
But, do go on telling yourself that you’re the hero because you stole a video game.

Still dont make sense to me, you are telling me that account your account that you sinked hundreds of days /played you would be willing to risk losing forever and be okay rerolling from a scratch and you are more likely to stop buying gold if you get suspended for 72hours instead? Idk about that theory.

this is the stupidest thing, no people will not risk their near full bis toons/accounts with all their alts and stuff on it for other games to buy gold lol. just the threat of a perma was enough to almost wipe it out on pservers.
if you just 2 week ban someone, they go touch grass, get an alt account to wash purchases through and go on their merry way buying.

Blizzard released classic because of the demand they saw in nostalrius and the petition for official classic servers that came out of that movement.
They even invited these so call thieves into their company and talked for hours how they managed their servers so well and how they dealed with different problems.
You just hating man.
What is insane to me that on Nostalrius you would get reply from real person GM in-game under 15minutes, while on the official servers from multibillion company you get automated response couple days later and no sanctions to cheaters.

I don’t bother reading that much by theives.
Like I said, this isnt my conclusion, this is blizzards and this is what they found from monitoring this over a long period of time. They dont perma ban for gold buying anymore because temp bans are simply more effective, and they are more interested in dealing with the problem overall than punishing some random andy.
