that is a contentious point in here.
Its not private, but no one seems to have it in here unless I give it to them. Go figure
btags are private between the player and blizzard.
we dont have to give out our btag to anyone if we dont want to and no one can find our btag unless we give it to them
Im inclined to agree. though blizzard does seem to indicate they arent really private…but theyre clearly not as ‘public’ as the tags on my car that everyone can see.
this is why people don’t want btags on the forums.
now this player is advocating for putting btags in an account wide ignore feature, so they would be able to ignore someone, then see their btag
It’s simple. No one wants to add you as a friend to find yours.

I feel like the one big issue is that the tags are quite a bit more secure than the current forum ids, at least if you’re posting on characters you use.
Anyone can friend your character name without notice, the tag needs to be approved so that people know that you’re doing it, and can say no. And while on other games it is your main id, on wow it seems more background so not directly tying in with your characters.

It’s so private, that any random person playing wow who finds you in game (randomly in the world, or by LFD) can right click on your character name to find out exactly what it is, full numbers and all.
