That’s what I’ve been doing. But a skill would it make it easier and faster between RPing and battles, etc. Obviously if it’s going to take a week to code then it’s not worth it, but if it’s something they can code in an hour, I think it would be worth the work.
We had hide helm and hide cloak checkboxes in the UI once upon a time, in the way back age.
But then we got transmog, and now we can hide most things and not just our helms and cloaks. I don’t see them re-introducing that checkbox when we have lots more things to hide and a system in place for it.

Is it not possible to make a gear set that leaves the helm slot empty and one with the helm equipped so you can simply drag those set buttons to your bar for quick changes at the click of a button?
Absolutely, it’s just a lot to maintain when you get gear upgrades.
If you want the ability to hide your helm for role playing without transmiogging it on and off all the time, simply just take the bloody thing off. It would be more roleplay like that way anyways.
Yes, but you have to open your bags, drag the helmet off your character, place it in your bag. Then when you want to wear it again, you have to open your bag, find the helmet, then right click it. If we could right click on the item and unequip, it would be a bit less cumbersome.
I know how trivial this request sounds, but when you’re in the middle of RP, playing with the windows can break the flow.
Then make an armor set that has your helmet and one that doesn’t have your helmet. Throw those two buttons on your action bar and problem solved.
I used to have a show/hide helm macro. I miss it.

I do, but everytime I get an upgrade I need to edit the armor sets. Again, it’s just a minute of extra work, but this is just a request for convenience if it’s not too much work on their end.
You should be able to ignore slots so that it only counts your helmet. You would just need to update it every time you replace your helmet, which isn’t very often at end game or if leveling with heirlooms. There are ways to do this sort of thing without adding in a brand new function.

How’s about this then. Transmog an “RP Helm” as a hidden helm, drag it to your action bar and drag your normally equipped helm to the spot next to it. You can then swap between the two with an easy click and when you get a new helm just replace the old one’s spot on the bar!

Haven’t seen anyone say yet and solution appears to be here already, but you can open you character panel, hold alt and hover over you helmet, and drop it in your bags easily, and put it on your action bars to re-equip. What Nico said is a better solution imo, though.
We used to have an interface option controllable by a macro command to show or hide your helm, cloaks too. It was another victim of the pointless interface options prune.

Or just buy deployable attire rearranger from the AH. I usually just buy them for like 4g each.
