it’s time to bring it back

Forums full of antagonistic people who don’t want to contribute to discussion, only want to contradict people
Yes this community needs more ways to shut itself down.
I was being silly, but the ignore feature isn’t that far away.
You’ve been dropping hot takes today, and I’m home sick. Sorry if I’ve been a little bit of a grump.
There’s reddit if you’re looking for an echo chamber.
Sometimes I act a bit grumpy too man.
Nah imo ignoring people is super lame
Downvoting is funny and gives a better idea of community consensus
Folks should use it more. It’s a shame, though, that it’s not intuitive to use, especially for private profiles. Should also be account-wide, but that’s for another thread.
OP, why the need for downvotes? Would there also be a downvote threshold that would result in muting the comment, similar to how flagging currently works?
No they shouldn’t
Ignoring people is super snowflake behavior
The flag feature seems to work the same way, so it’s like it never left.
I guess but flag feature doesn’t show magnitude of community dislike lol
It got removed because people became obsessed with it and numbers. They would ignore context of posts and just focus on the downvote numbers.
Depend on how it gets implemented back. As long as it’s only a down vote and not a way to bury opposing view point like how it was then sure let’s bring back downvote
I like the hearts because you can kind of tell when people agree with a general idea if there are consistent hearts
Would like to see the same for disagreement
Ignoring people is super snowflake behavior
Eh, that’s subjective. It’s a way to tailor the forum to your liking without it impacting others. If we’re talking snowflakes, what about whining about the need for downvotes because the forums are “too antagonistic”? You can always just ignore those folks - not in the “ignore feature on the forums” sense, but in the “just don’t reply if you don’t like it” sense.
How is it snowflakey to want to downvote bad ideas on the forum?
Compared to ignoring people which is akin to hiding from your problems?
Nah.
People would abuse it to shut down others.
I think the up and down vote system used in the interwebs is just not productive.
If you disagree or agree, just voice your opinion.
It may be more productive that way.
shut down others
This is kind of the point of the downvote… to create a community consensus to shut down trolls and bad ideas
In the same way likes on posts shows a positive community consensus’s
How is it snowflakey to want to downvote bad ideas on the forum?
So this goes back to my question I asked earlier that you didn’t answer:
OP, why the need for downvotes? Would there also be a downvote threshold that would result in muting the comment, similar to how flagging currently works?
If you’re wanting downvotes as means to see how much everyone else disagrees as much as you, that’s fine. If you’re wanting downvoting to result in the muting of a comment, that’s snowflakey. Even more so than ignoring someone, which affects no one but the person initiating the ignore.
