Can we all agree questing really is pointless?

  • You get gold that is never enough for anything of value.

  • You get gear rewards that are 95% of the time never used.

  • You get reputation that is never enough to make sense for a reward or vendor item by the time you leave the zone.

It just seems like the idea of “Questing” is more a chore than an actually rewarding event. After the Panda event, it made more sense to better reward your room with stats and buffs…

Can we just replace questing rewards with a randomized chest that gives the chance for far greater rewards?

Maybe rewards that have potential to truly release the dopamine??? A few examples below…

  • 1% chance at a mount
  • 5% change at a weapon that is 3-5 ilvls ahead of current level
  • 5% chance for an elixir that grants 15% more gold or dmg for 3hrs

Idk, I find myself questing at max level in TWW and there are so many non daily quests I need to do and the rewards and just flat out pointless. The only dopamine release is no longer having that “!” On my map…

Just an idea…

EDIT

Jesus people. Did you even read my whole post? I’m talking about the REWARDS not the idea of Questing…90% of all these responses aren’t even what I said…nice job WOW community lol

No, we can’t.

I like to do them as a way to interact with the environment and the NPCs. How else do you learn each random NPC person’s story? But seriously, I like to do them, mostly.

I like questing. It’s kind of its own reward.

Replace? No ty. Add options? Sure, why not.

It piles surprisingly well, I have a toon with still 30 grand that was mostly from DF questing and that’s with spending money on a bunch of rather expensive thinngs like rare recipes; it’s not going to buy tokens but in general it’s not that bad

I generally only play the open world content. I enjoy the questing and use the items that drop. Either to wear, turn into gold, or turn into crafting materials… Plus questing is how I have made my 5 million gold. Not a terrible lot but I enjoy it.

It is only with Follower Dungeons and Delves, that I have ventured into instances so far. No plans for Heroic or Mythic Dungeons. I might check out LFR but I say that every expansion and never do.

I do agree that questing and leveling is an outdated mechanic that needs to be improved. It’s a time sink, nothing more

No questing is not pointless. If you don’t want to play the RPG portion of an MMORPG, then I suggest other games.

Nope.

The whole game is a time sink though

Objectively speaking, questing is pointless. They aren’t pushing you as a player or introducing you to new mechanics.

I can see where quests might be fun if they were purely optional, and used to actually tell stories or unlock things. When you feel like you have to do them, though, I think that’s where you cause players to resent questing.

There is a super powerful effect that happens in the human mind that when you feel like you’re supposed to do something, you resent it and view it as a chore. Games should never feel like a chore.

No, I like questing and enjoy the lore.

There’s nothing forcing you to quest beyond doing the main storyline once, then you can skip it.

I dont quest for the rewards. The quests are just guides/suggestions of where to go while I explore and kill things, both of which I enjoy very much in this game.

I could just go and do stuff randomly, or make up my own reason to go kill 100 kobolds. But I don’t mind being someones lacky if I am feeling lazy.

Most of my gear usually comes from the Auction Hall, lol.

I think M+ is pointless… guess what I just ignore it. :person_gesturing_no:

Questing isn’t pointless.

The whole idea is to tell a story.

If you’re doing it for loot, yeah I can see the issues, there’s better methods for that now.

Questing still remains the single biggest contributor to renown/reputation, it isn’t useless.

Questing is great for lore and exploring. Can the rewards be reworked? Sure. The rep gains are a lot than what they used to be. Farming furbolgs for like 3 rep each* (Don’t remember the exact number) until you hit exalted was much more of a chore.

Overall, sure it could be better but it has improved from what it once was. Constructive Feedback has at least a potential for Devs to notice.

Maybe if you made the Title read “Can we agree questing REWARDS are really Pointless” then you may have avoided at least some of those comments??

Yeah the gear rewards are kind of bad at max level, but the gold rewards should increase for all quests you haven’t done at max level.
