Can’t decide on a class

Well, I wanted to play them all. My original plan was one of each class Horde on one RP-PvE realm, one of each class Alliance on another RP-PvE realm, and a couple more Horde on an RP-PvP realm.

Shared sub, and the threat of sharding being pulled out as a “last resource” solution for anything but starting zone has me really meh and I probably won’t play more than three or four 30-day periods. As such, I want to roll one or two Horde to take through all the questing, with a minimum of fuss which means classes that can probably solo most things. Warlock seems likely right now, as a pet class with a level 40 spell for a mount, and no ammunition to make or purchase. The other I bounce between warrior, shaman, or druid - with druid likely to win out for it’s multi-functionality in the leveling arena.

First thing to do is decide the roll. Tank, heal, dps, from there the pruning of classes can happen

I’m rolling a human rogue and human paladin as my first two. Backed up by night elf hunter and puntable Warlock.

And should one decide that every role has its own appeal at some point through the arc of the game, one can conclude that Druids are the class to play.

Every class holds some level of appeal for me, they are all fun and well thought out but, just when I think I have an alternative figured out, the Druids pull me back in.

Not just the role, but the most important content (EDIT: most important to the person making the decision).

Do you want to raid? Do you want to raid in a high-pressure, min/max guild that will expect most people in preset roles? Do you want to raid with a bunch of friends in a much more relaxed scenario where there’s more freedom of choice?

Do you want to PvP? Which kind? There’s wPvP of the gank or be ganked variety. There’s wPvP of the TM/SS, Crossroads, and Sentinel Hill variety. There’s wPvP of the capital city raid variety. There’s BGs to queue for. There’s sitting outside a capital city and dueling your days away.

Do you want to run dungeons? Is your preference leveling dungeons of the end-game dungeons for 58+ characters?

Do you want to quest, particularly being able to finish most quests solo or with only one or two other people even if they say 5-man quest?

Do you want to work on professions? Do you want to gather easily? Do you want to play the AH?

Just curious but have you played vanilla wow before?

i have this issue but ive almost always had it in any game. i tend to master one and just mess with the rest though in the end

Do you want to do mostly pvp or pve? Assuming you’re playing horde

been playing since January 2005, unfortunately lol.

Sorry, I was unaware that this was Classic and not General.

I thought I couldn’t decide too. But I went and played with an old talent calculator and remembered there’s only about 3 classes I can stomach and/or not feel bored. I suggest you go plug in some talents.

WELLL, here’s considerations:

  1. is your first goal to be established financially? if so, mage or hunter.

  2. is your first goal to be established in professions for financial benefit? if so, gathering such as mining and herbalism. this may be further enhanced by your choice of races. for example, if you decide to swap out mining for alchemy later on, selecting the race that has a bonus in alchemy is a good plan. that further can be fine tuned by selecting a class that race also can benefit from the most. so it isn’t as easy as what class, but what class, profession and race.

  3. is your first goal to level up as fast as possible and race/profession is secondary? if so, hunter, mage or lock.

  4. if horde, will you like the races with hunter, mage or lock options? for example, what race makes the best hunter? mage? lock? and will they coincide with profession selections?

  5. is your first goal to pvp? if so, rogue, lock, hunter or mage. same considerations as #4 (et.al coincide with professions? race?)

  6. do you prefer raiding? shaman if horde, dwarf priest if alliance.

My advice would be, play as what you want. You gotta like the race/class you’re playing as, and choose talents you want to choose. At the end of the day everyone else is just following the same old tested plans some other people figured out worked best. I don’t care if I’m best, I’m not a competitive person - I just want to have fun and enjoy the game as it used to be, with laid-back people.
