Can t decide between Leatherworking or Blacksmithing

I can t decide between both. My hunter is at 50 and I dropped her gathering professions when she reached 50 (used them for extra xp). Now I want to start working on making gold but I can t decide between Skinning and leatherworking or mining and blacksmithing.

Any recommendations will help, thanks in advance

I’m in a similar situation online I can’t decide between blacksmithing and leatherworking.

Hunter’s lego bases come from LW. BS is plate only.

But seriously, either go Alchemy for pots or Engi.

Yeah I think the fact that the Legendaries for hunters are from Leatherworking might be advantageous. How is leatherworking in SL for gold?

I honestly do not know.
I got inscription. Made 100k’s of gold first few weeks selling massives 2-3k/piece. Total made about 500k i think. Not much for sume, but a lot for me. Bought tons of transmog and mounts off AH. I am happy. Now, prices have gone down a lot. So I am not even bothering much. I got 200k sitting around to buy flasks/food, and it should be enough to last for quite awhile.

Leather and mail sells for more than plate I think.

A lot more, due to Callous Hide being pretty rare

if you have the vantus rune recipe and at least 1 rep contract recipe you can still make tons of gold. the runes are like 2k on my server and my lock has the necro one (late 60 and no other rep yet) and thats like 1600g for one. and it costs the same mats as making a tome. which sells for like 600g.

at max so far in SL i have inscription and herb, skinning and lw, alchemy, tailoring and enchanting, and engi (no mining yet. he’s a lowbie) at max. i make far and away the most gold with inscription. if you like to farm skinning makes far more gold than lw does btw. that’s what this toon is.

edit: if you do inscription ignore non-legion glyphs entirely. they’re a trap. they lose you gold. make current content stuff and legion glyphs. some of those sell for 20k each on my server right now. but they take a while to sell.

Unless you have millions, I do mean millions, to get started on legendary crafting just stay mining/skinning.

I lost 10, 000 -15,000 gold per legendary item (16) on rank 1.

if you have a lowbie to level enchanting on it’s not that expensive if you have the appropriate gathering proff for your thing, assuming you’re not tailoring. you can also get basic mats and use some dust and double your profit just turning it into the enchanted thing. if you’re impatient though and don’t have access to an enchanter then yeah, you’re gonna have a rough time.

did you just power level lw without skinning at all and then also buy all the enchanted leather off the ah? (assuming you’re talking about lw)

I bought most, and I enchant myself. Go price it.

Bonshatter Guantlets
4 Enchanted Heavy Callous Hide = 80 callous hide 8800 gold
1 soul dust 17.5g
4 Heavy Callous Hide = 40 callous hide 4400 gold
10 Heavy desolate leather. 240g
10 Oboreal shard 1170 gold
15 milk bones 35gold
total 1 rank(1) Boneshatter Guantlets = 14, 645 cost
AH current price = 7,500
negative -7,145gold

prices may vary, but have fun

do you have an alt that you can put skinning on? you can get tons of leather passively just doing callings. you don’t need to buy leather at all honestly. you paid that much because of impatience. and we all pay in the end, in either time or gold.

also if you have a tailor you can make bracers and de them and not spend 17g each on a dust.

I’m BS on this warrior, LW on my rogue. If it gold you want, LW seems to net me rogue more gold because it’s just a quicker process.

people are like ZOMG HIDES SO RARE but you aren’t getting any if you’re not skinning. and you can skin things you haven’t killed yourself. and most people don’t have skinning. so they leave potentially thousands of gold just laying on the ground that you just have to go skin.

I have a LW, Tailor, Enchanter, Scribe and JC. Had alchemy but dropped it as it isn’t profitable.

LW makes good money if you craft legendries. I recommend focusing on leather though not mail. Mail has a smaller player base and doesn’t sell as fast.

Tailoring doesn’t have as high a profit margin but it sells the fastest of the 3.

I don’t have a BS but looking at the sale rates in TSM, it appears it sells for similar to tailoring in terms of cost. Looks like it won’t sell as fast as tailoring, but faster than LW.

Tailoring and plate would certainly be the easiest of the legendaries to cap. Simply because the sunk cost is the lowest.

Whilst you do make a loss on rank 1’s, it’s really only rank 1’s. Rank 2, 3 and 4 all sell for a profit. I’ve heard a lot of people say there is profit only in rank 4’s. It’s just not true. I’m on a high pop server so a lot of competition but it’s still profitable at the lower ranks. Occasionally they’ll drop below cost but it doesn’t take long for someone to buy those legendaries out and reset the price to above cost.

The thing to keep in mind is the time requirement. Crafting takes time. I enjoy crafting but I regularly spend an hour plus a day working on my crafting. I try to do it mainly when I can afk it (when converting callous hide to heavy or enchanting things).

I would say legendaries are really only worth it if you have an enchanter as well. I’d hate to be trying to make a profit off them if I didn’t have an enchanter. I don’t think it would be worth it tbh. Too many people in the legendary market do have it, so it is the mat cost of enchanted goods that drives price not the cost of the enchanted mats.
