I’m trying to figure out if this is possible. Sadly theres nothing that shows up on the top of my active buffs showing me how close I am to Harsh Discipline with penance.
In the middle of a crazy active raid I tend to lose track of how many times I’ve casted smite which leads to wasted downtime while I’m in the middle of casting smite (and have to cancel) not realizing I’ve already procced Harsh Discipline. (also important to take full advantage Twilight) of Is there some way I could set up a weak auras to count like 1/2/3/ smite casts and then it resets when Harsh Discipline procs?
WeakAura to track each buff. Show text for stacks while under cap. When at cap and you gain the proc have an aura track that.
This is basic stuff in the trigger tab.
Create an icon and the trigger to track aura on the player.
Track the name of the aura.
Setting for visibility is only when found.
Display tab: In the text section on the bottom it should be %s - if you are unsure just hover over the text input area and you’ll get a toolltip with instructions.
They very bottom of display tab has options for glow. Add one and turn it off.
In the conditions tab, add a condition for the aura trigger stack count and set that equal to whatever the cap is you need.
In the bottom of that condition select GLOW visibility and hit the checkbox.
Now you’ve made an icon with stack texts so you can see how many you have and when you cap the button will glow.
Hi Skull! first of all I wanted to thank you for that very informative post. I learned alot about weak auras.
Sadly, I followed your directions and build it out, but its not fuctioning the way I intended. No matter what stacks or stack count I set, I simply pops onto my screen whenever I proc harse discipline, my intention was somthing to count my smite casts before I procced it.
The problem is, the whole aura is tracking Harsh Discipline which as I started before just pops up when I cast for smites, but there seems to be no build up tracker.
I think I need to build a weak auras for smite. Is there some way for weak auras to track how many times I am casting smite and reset at 4?
What is the buff that you get when you cast smite? That should have your stack count. I can make one for you tomorrow and then you’ll see how it’s made.
For me, counting things like stacks I have a WA Text setup to just show a number on a bar like Frenzy for my pets so I know when I have a 3 stack rolling and tracking when it is going to fall so I know to reapply it.
This way we can track Smite stacks how you want and then we can have another visual icon with a glow or something that pops up when you’re at 4 stacks.
Additionally if the Smite stacks/buff has a short timer we can create a bar to track falloff.
The orange bar is my focus which I have turn red when I can’t cast Kill Command anymore and above it there is a red bar with a tick near the start (end) and a stack count for frenzy. Frenzy is applied with Barbed Shot which lights up a tiny bit more than 1 global to attract my attention so I know to stop hitting buttons and look at my bar. The tick shows me if it’s still safe to toss in one more global and still have time to hit Barbed before Frenzy falls off.
We can start with a few simple icons then expand it if you want into something else. Let me know what the Smite buff is called and the proc buff and I’ll setup 2 icons in a group for you tomorrow.

The icon is Penance, it’s desaturated while you are building stacks, when you are at 4 stacks it turns off desaturation, text, adds a glow and swipe so you know how long you have before the buff wears off:

thank you so much! To show you how much I’ve learned, I make the text much bigger, removed the desaturate and changed the icon to smite. I guess the trigger with smite after all? Anyway, thank you, I think this will really improve my performance in heroic right now so you have been very helpful and I really appreciate it.
