I want to level cooking. Opening K does not show cooking, it shows “Cataclysm Cooking” and no matter how many things I make, I do not level past 1.
I want to get rid of “Cataclysm Cooking” and just level cooking as a profession. I have looked everywhere and I cannot even delete the profession, because it is cooking.
What on earth is going on? Why is “Cataclysm Cooking” my profession? I have no interest in that expansion right now. I just want to level Cooking.
I cannot figure anything out in this expansion, it’s so strange. I don’t know what Blizzard did this time at all…
You have to learn dragonflight cooking from a dragonflight trainer. Just like literally every other expansion.

I’m not trying to get Dragonflight Cooking, I just picked up the profession on a new character and haven’t played in years. Like, just grabbed the profession.
Then do the classic cooking recipes?
If you haven’t been around in a while, each expansion has its own self contained profession skill you do NOT need to level classic cooking to do any other cooking stuff.

I am, but I’m not leveling from it. Opening K says “Cataclysm Cooking” and it is stuck at 1/75. I just need to get back to regular Cooking and I can’t figure it out.

change the filter to classic cooking

Sorry, but I still am very confused. I can change the filter, look at classic cooking, see my classic cooking level, but opening K still says “Cataclysm Cooking” with 1/75 level.
Like, I have zero interest in Cataclysm Cooking and do not want that profession and can’t delete it.
EDIT: Wait, so you don’t need to level cooking anymore? You just go to a trainer for that expansion and that’s it?
So, what you’re saying is basically at some point I picked Cataclysm Cooking as my profession, can I overwrite it with a different Cooking profession? I don’t plan on doing any Cataclysm content whatsoever so this is a completely useless profession.
You can know the cooking for every expansion. Knowing cataclysm cooking does not preclude you from learning dragonflight or legion or wrath or whatever
Is there a way to remove “Cataclysm Cooking” from the K menu and replace it? I get what you’re saying that they are separate professions now but it’s really weird that it is just locked into showing Cataclysm Cooking on the K menu.

It automatically shows the “latest” expansion you know, as far as I’m aware. If you learn WoD/legion/BFA/SL/DF cooking, the latest of those will become the new default.

You need to filter to the expansion you currently want (top left-ish). It will ONLY show you those you have learned and if you close it, stupidly it won’t stay on that one or will partially shift giving you say, the wrong level, of recipes. Just select the one you want again (it does default to the most current expansion IF you have learned it).
Leveling DF cooking is fun, it does require a bit of work and odd materials, but isn’t stupidly hard to level. Fishing IS a plus like always.

OHHH! Ok - that clears it up. Thank you for your patience. So basically, since Cataclysm takes place on the vanilla Azeroth landmass, I ended up training that in Stormwind when I just intended to start leveling cooking.
My assumption was that the process was being “sped up” by allowing us to start at Cataclysm (so we’d start at MoP Cooking next xpac) but what really happened is that I inadvertently trained for Cataclysm cooking in Stormwind. Am I getting it now? hahaha

No problem. Yes, the Cataclysm expansion affted many areas of Azeroth, but not all. So some are still Classic, though many were re-vamped and updated with different quests. You will only get fishing skill ups in appropriate areas.
Since Cataclysm is on Azeroth, you can train Cooking for it and Classic, and as far as Fishing, you can get several expansions, which is nice.
A suggestion, for Classic cooking, if you are not in a rush, you can all but get it to max (290 I think), during the Thanksgiving WoW event. You can also level it up a bit with the Darkmoon fair (one week each month) by fishing up Darkmoon Daggermaw there and buying up the recipes as the get you skillups making them.
The first 40 points of Classic cooking can be got by just making Spice Bread.
Google WoW professions for help with cheap leveling guides.
