Everytime I sim my arms warrior, mastery and strength is way at the bottom. My wpn, crit, haste are always top three. Why is strength and mastery so bad for a warrior. Seems backwards no? You would think an arms war should be encouraged to stack mastery for a big bleed dot effect but i guess not. Broken design?
All secondaries play a big part in the rotation for Arms and they each synergize well with each other. It’s likely due to Colossus Smash / Warbreaker windows, GCD, and haste effecting deep wounds and cooldown recovery, and crit effecting rage generation. Doing more damage with abilities is comparable to a higher damage to bleed conversion. Not to mention slam and overpower are unaffected by mastery.
Great answer; I’d add that it seems like Blizzard has balanced this by making the little amounts of Mastery we do get go a lot further than our other secondaries. @OP, why do you want to collect mastery? It just isn’t a stat we focus on as a class especially since deep wounds (at low mastery) is already going to be an overwhelming majority of your DPS in both PVP and PVE situations.
Because point for point, it doesn’t add as much damage as the other stats. So you don’t want it. It’s good for aoe, but that’s really it, and crit’s better.
Mastery used to be good for arms, but it was for only a brief time. Now haste and crit are really reigning supreme for most classes. Not all but most.
I always looked at mastery as a fine tuner anyway. Once u were criting constantly and haste is messing with how your rotation flows you then went mastery. Not so anymore
Azerite really made a mess of things stat wise.
Mastery was best in Legion, when it was completely different. No time since.
It wasn’t bad in cata either. The extra swings we’re pretty nice.
Ran with two arms warriors for firelands who could solo all the elementals in the final fight with ragnaros
Yes but how is that remotely relevant to this, a post about arms mastery from right now. Not the mastery from three version of arms mastery ago.
I know I know. Just remembering when their mastery meant something lol. My bad.
deep wound also doesn’t have pandemic, so everytime it reapplies it sort of a dps loss at the same time.
Just a bad mastry effect that hasn’t been adjusted properly all expansion (beside upscaling it so it wasn’t like 0.19 dps per stat during the initial month).
In Legion it was +% bonus to smash, so it was quite useful for the burst window. The bleed now is lackluster, lazy, and forgettable, kinda annoying seeing it at the top of dmg done when it’s just a passive.
?? Do you mean the healing debuff, or are you actually talking about the mastery? Because it pandemics.
While strength rates low it stacks faster when gearing up. Point for point you don’t get as much damage out of it, but when you make gear upgrades you’re gaining a lot more strength than you are secondaries so it’s still very valuable.
As for why mastery isn’t preferred it just isn’t strong for us unless you want to cleave or AoE. This is partially due to no pandemic benefit and the damage not stacking when overridden (which is pretty easy to do).
Edit: I cant actually remember if mastery benefits from pandemic but a somewhat moot point regardless. The debuff is easily maintained in an ST situation especially during execute.
What would you guys says is the stat priority for arms in pvp atm?
Haste, then probably anything but mastery.
Because the dot effect refreshes every attack and never has a chance to fully tick. Therefore you’re losing DPS by using your abilities, making mastery less ideal.
