Can someone explain what was so great about mop?

I never played mop, quit in cata. I didn’t even think wrath was that great so I don’t understand the hype. TBC was my favorite expansion. What made mop so much better than wrath or tbc for some people?

I wouldn’t say better, but MOP was good (maybe except the Siege of Org content drought at the end)

Blizz was still pro-flying
PVP felt good, there were vendors too
PVE felt good, flex was cool
timeless isle was cool too

Classes had pretty full kits (this was right before the #prune )

I dunno man, it was just a solid expansion. I’d say I enjoyed it as much as all previous expansions (except maybe a bit more than Cata)

Everything. The new map was fun, interesting and different especially the Panda starting zone. Monks! That was pretty great too.

it wasn’t. the vast overwhelming majority of people absolutely hated it when it was first announced.

a lot of ppl didn’t even make it thru the first day since they just quit right off the bat when they heard the depressing news of the new xpac

i think the people that stuck it out may have liked it for the theme and aesthetic that it brought but almost everybody that i knew either absolutely hated it or were kinda meh about it

so i’m not really sure what happened over a period of 8 years that people kinda did a 180…

I think there is a lot of nostalgia because that is when twitch blew up, so people watched a lot of streamers like reckful and sodapoppin during mop. But the actual game doesn’t seem like it was great compared to tbc or wrath.

Dunno. I played it some but I worked a lot back then. Seems like warbringers might have been the most fun I had that expansion cause I learned how to blood dk just for the mounts they drop. Could have skipped it though, not overall memorable for me.

MoP for me, felt like there was so much story content…I actually still haven’t done it all. Shadowlands comparatively, I went through everything pretty quickly.

MoP…lots of new models, amazing looking mounts…factions worth grinding. And you had a lot of options immediately with a more natural flowing time gate (25 daily quest limit).

MoP was not my favorite expansion, but it’s 1 weakness (imo) was the Panda theme. Even during the draught at the end, I had stuff to catch up on. I cannot say the same for any expansion after. Legion was fun, very bored during large portions of it.

The most advanced, complex, and engaging class/spec design the game has ever known, while basic rotation was still accessible enough for new/casual players in casual content. (Note: Many such abilities have not returned to the game, even in Shadowlands “un-pruning”.)

The best Valor (gear currency) system the game has ever known. (Note: Was beneficial to entire playerbase, as opposed to current Valor system.)

The best Legendary system and questline the game has ever known. (Unique cloaks for every role, with metagems for helm slot. Note: Currently removed from game.)

Unique and rewarding reputations, such as cloud serpent faction and Golden Lotus rep that branched out into further mini-hubs as you gained rep. (Note: Original Golden Lotus campaign removed from game.)

Good raids, good dungeons, good world content, good pacing of content.

Devs responded to player issues by adding commendations to help alts gain rep faster, and by adding Valor bonus for alts once main was capped.

Unfortunately, the best parts of MoP can no longer be experienced.

Leveling through the zones was engaging, the story actually made sense (well, mostly), the character abilities felt balanced overall and they had planned out the end with the three extra islands. And I loved my little farm (my mage still lives there).

This is spot on. I would add that reputations felt meaningful and worth grinding. Professions felt really good and the farm was one of the best pieces of profession based content Blizz ever made. Also Nat Pagle fishing stuff was good.

the big thing the devs still cared, there was some serious time spent with people who had real talent and most classes were just seriously fun which all the dumb panda thing made alot people miss out on something great. they had throne of thunder which was awesome btw ion did it SOO was pretty darn good to. think most people loved the cloak legendary thing and the whole heirloom thing off garrosh was pretty good to. pvp was ok timeless isle not bad.

Timeless Isle and PvP vendor wall on my server Darkspear was amazing. We had preparedWoW, ruin gaming, Iron Alliance and a lot of massive guilds fighting constantly. Some big streamers joining in and their communities. Season 15 as an elemental shaman was God Mode.

The world was beautiful. I was invested in the stories. There was a lot of casual end games content, like scenarios and the farm at Halfhill. World PvP and queued PvP were both invested into. Challenge modes provided unique gear. Pro-flying and a dev team that listened to players made the entire expansion enjoyable.

its kind of become like a bandwagon effect thing. people just read people saying it on the forums and just agree

No the vast majority and even that isn’t true in the forums hated it . And they only did so because of "OOH KUNG FU PANDA I’M NOT PLAYING THAT "

People that actually played it liked it because of how good classes played . The story was good . The raids especially Throne of Thunder were good.

Other then the daily quest rep issues at the start and the long period of SoO . Which in all honesty every final raid other then I believe Ny’alotha has been around a year from start to next expansions launch . MoP over all was a well rounded expansion .

MoP PvP was eons ahead of TBC and s15 was probably pretty even in terms of quality with the last two seasons of wrath too. It was also better than anything we’ve had since, so you are definitely going to see PvPers missing it. The raids, the world and CMs were also very fun and engaging during MoP too, basically everyone had something to do that was enjoyable.

The first two seasons were pretty garbage though, but that goes for Wrath too.

I didn’t like the aesthetic because I felt it was too much a caricature, but the lore. The lore - after I took the time to get to know it better - was one of the more personal (to our characters) expansions. It was an expansion about ‘us’. About the power of personal emotions to awaken the demons within us and within the land - the land being absolutely integral to the story of WoW, per Metzen.

What began as a flat initial story of traveling to a far flung island, resulted in us unearthing the revelation that our own wants and hopes and fears can consume us and be the very thing that we have to fight against, and perhaps more damning than any ‘standard big bad.’

It was a very good story that was, to some small degree, embedded into the overall narrative.

Top notch gameplay.
Great story lines.
Good raid and dungeon design.
Tons of people playing.
You could hop from zone to zone. After the intro the rails were off for leveling.
Introduction of Pet Battles.
Ease of entry into PvP/PvE. Flex raiding debuted.

The biggest complaint was and still seems to be"Kung Fu Panda! That’s for kids!" or “Pandaren were just an April Fools joke!”
You rarely hear much else with the exception of the end of expansion drought. Clearly something catastrophic happened behind the scenes that led to that followed by WoD though.
