The way the spell works with refreshing compared to other spells makes no sense.
It doesn’t tick after 17 seconds if you refresh and extend the timer, which means that refreshing early actually drops DPS which is not how refreshing DoTs is supposed to work. For example, if you refresh the timer at 4 seconds up to 21 (the max for a 17 second duration DoT) it won’t tick in 4 seconds. You lose the tick and, even worse, it won’t tick again for another 21 seconds.
So you are playing Bj Blazkowicz’s great, great, great grandson. See he assaulted a superior officer, who ordered his unit to fire on civilians. So after putting that officer in a body cast? He was sent to Mars where the Union Aerospace Corporation was screwing around with teleportation tech on two moons of Mars, Phobos and Deimos. Some how they open a gateway to hell, Demons come in and kill everyone but the Doom Marine. So he loads up his Pistol (or Assault Rifle if you are playing Brutal Doom) and go’s about killing everything in his way. So after beating five episodes of Doom (I’m counting Sigil) he gets back to Earth and finds hell over ran Earth.
Thus we get Doom 2 where we get 30 levels along with two levels from Wolfenstein. So again the Doom Marine go’s forth and one man armies his way on Earth all the way back to hell. Finally pumping a few rockets into the brain of the Icon of Sin. Note this leads to Final Doom and The Plutonia Experiment, and TNT: Evilution, however I’m only going to count Plutonia as TNT is kinda boring.
So this leads to Doom 64 where the Doom Marine is sent back to Mars after they find out that the Demon’s for the most part pulled the same plot from the old CBS War of the World’s TV Show, well the first season of it… Still he go’s back to hell and decides to stay there. Note this leads to Doom 2016 and Eternal and the Doom Marine becoming the Doom Slayer, also at some point he may have been teleported out of hell to go fight in Quake 3.
And Doom 3 is sorta tied to all of this… I don’t know how but it sorta is… But yeah that’s how Doom works.
If that all is true, that’s actually an impressive timeline/story… thing, considering all most people do (including myself) is just boot up Doom to mindlessly kill hordes of Demons.
