Can Someone Explain the reason for the increase in Penumbra thread?

I must be misreading the patch notes:

Blockquote Items and Rewards

  • Increased the vendor cost of Penumbra Thread to 11 gold (was 9 gold).

    • Developers’ note: This price change is to balance the decreased cost of reagents with the change to a regional commodity Auction House.

It sounds as if those who need the thread are being punished because other mats are less expensive on the Ah? WTF Blizz?

Looking like buying a million gold of p-thread to resell later is going to pay off for for me….

To combat the crafting to sell to vendor goldmaking.

Few things Blizz has ever done has aggravated me more than this. It feels fundamentally unfair. If mats cost less it’s because actual players are getting less gold for those mats. So it feels doubly punitive to say we’re also gonna extract more gold out of ya by increasing a vendor fee to use those mats.

I can’t really put it in words. I’m quite upset. I know it feels like Lucy and the football. Like changing the rules in the middle of an inning. Yeah, I know, mixed sports’ metaphors. The cost of thread was already exorbitant. I don’t feel anything from vendor merchants should be increased in the middle (or straggly end) of an expansion. If anything, reductions in fees should be introduced to make gearing up alts easier at such a late stage.

As someone who has (too) many alts and tries to make them all the best bags or next to it, the cost just went up and it wasn’t cheap in the first place.

Blizz seems to be more intent on finding creative ways to sell more tokens than making a creative game that’s fun for players.

I believe this is targeting vendor shuffles people were doing. Those frequently get nerfed or changed somehow as people figure them out.

Good thing that I don’t really need thread anymore this late in the expansion. Even the Legendary base item market is pretty flat now. Not much reason to craft anything other than maybe bags if I decide to make an alt or something.

If they are after vendor shuffles why not just decrease what the finished item sells for to a vendor not the cost of the thread?

Other vendor reagents are also going to be raised to balance out the decreased cost of reagents with the change to a regional commodity Auction House.?

If not the developer note is just blowing smoke

Go to the tailoring vendor in BFA there are 7 gold there, I realized that a few months ago. Unless they changed it recently. I just looked and now it’s 8 gold 80 silver.

Vendors give discounts based on your rep, so the previous 7.2g price was actually 9g minus 20% for exalted with the particular vendor. But now even with an exalted vendor it is 11g -20% = 8.8g.

It was done to break the shuffles. Someone asked why not lower the vendor sale price? They did that too. Tailor robes dropped a couple g in sale price a few weeks ago but it was still profitable to sell them. Not any more.

It is the secrecy that sucks. Yeah we get it you have to do it to manage gold sinks and gold sources, but let us plan ahead.

They can’t with something like this. We’d just be wise enough to buy hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of gold in thread to then profit even more heavily off the new lowered regional price.

Seems like the problem is the vendor is paying too much money for crafted gear.

They wanted to nerf the ability to make gold

They want levelers to have bad gear. Otherwise, no one has any incentive to level up their alts and slam them headfirst into chores.

When someone hits level 50 with a typical ilvl of <50, they are not geared enough to fight their way into Shadowlands. Nor can they get gear from doing world quests in BfA, because you have to have an ilvl of close to 70 to start seeing upgrades.

Gold sink.

Oh I thought this was about Penumbra the Nightborn poster.

omg lol

did anyone else quickly read this as panera bread?

Just to offset any ‘shuffle’ possibilities I’m guessing.

This type of thing is generally a fix to shuffles that involve buying something, crafting, then vendoring. For example 3 thread might be 27g, coupled with 50 silver of AH material for a vendor price of 35g that results in 7.5g profit per craft.

they want you to be a poor peasant unless you’re a top end raider that sells runs or buys wow tokens

Well Congrats to Blizz… they lost an aditional $25 a month from me (already lost $120 when they stopped allowing multi-boxing)… have already canceled my second account (primarially just use it to shuffle to make gold while i play on my main screen) and now no longer have enough gold to buy tokens… so they loose $5 on my main account as well… To top all this off… have to decide if this game is actually worth paying for, vs the free ive been playing for the last 4 years
