Forum replies say my parses are gray. Uhm okay. Where are they seeing that? I’ve looked all over in character info.

As linked above its a site that compaires your damage against others of your spec and there is an option for compairing by ilvl as well.
Rankings are color coded in much the same way gear is in game, orange the best, purple, then blue, then green, then grey. If your grey that means there are some things you can do to improve the damage your doing.

Otherwise many classes have a discord server and you can always try your class forums for specific advice.
General advice though is to enchant, get trinkets and rings with gem slots, make sure you use a flask, rune, food and 2 sec before the fight starts use a potion so that you can use a second potion during the fight (this is called pre potting.) When possible align personal cool downs with hero.
