So with the new solo shuffle game mode, i decided id give pvp a try. on my warrior, i got to 1k rating in 6 games. So i figured oh, this is a nice pace. I then went on my main (hunter) and now im struggling to even make it past 900. most games im going 4/2 or 3/3. i gave very few points, and lose more than i gain.
Your MMR or match making rating is the biggest factor. Essentially, it’s placing you against players it thinks are in your same skill range and the game is pushing to that range as fast as possible. So if you win a few matches, your MMR pushes up much faster. Keep winning, and your MMR can exceed your actual CR or current rating by as much as 500+ points or even more. With that, you face higher and higher teams. As soon as you lose though, your MMR drops off significantly. Lose again, and your MMR and CR are likely in the same range now. Lose again and your MMR could plummet.
The other side is the CR of the team you’re facing. If the team is much higher then your MMR and comparable to your MMR, your rating will go up by the maximum allowed. In the lower brackets, rating can fluctuates 100’s of points. Past 1500-1600, it starts to slow in arena, but in RSS, your CR will keep having exaggerated jumps much like RBGs.
Anyways, If you’re going 4/2 and getting no points, you’re likely facing weak teams. That’s why winning consecutive times is really important. Once you start going 50/50, the game sees that you have hit a break even point and your rating doesn’t go up or down much per win or loss.
In that, winning multiple games can sometimes land you what I think of as break out games. Like you win 3-4 matches, you might face a much higher team since your MMR spiked. If you win that match, you can make a pretty large jump in MMR and it actually safeguards your CR for a bit. Why? Well, you start facing teams MUCH higher then your CR. It’s weird how it works, but it makes sense overall.
In the end, you just need to keep your win/loss slightly to the positive OR always be being the teams the game sees as being more skilled. So, you could have a 50/50 win/loss and still hit 2400+.
so basically if you do end up losng to many games youre kinda f’d? being a hunter, getiing 2v1d nearly every game makes it difficult to even try to solo carry. im at 79 wins, 83 loss. on my hunter.
Sort of. I mean, at any point you can turn it around. Win 2-3 matches in a row and you’re back on the path. Since you’re at that 50/50 win/loss right now, the game thinks you’re at the appropriate skill level.
If this is the hunter you’re playing, unfortunately you’re already behind in gear. Lots of players with 4-6 epics already, full enchanted, and sockets. So you’re missing out on a decent chunk.
Beyond that, hunter is honestly in a really bad spot in RSS. I know some folks here will argue with me on this, but who you queue up with and who you face can make a huge difference. Hunters play really well with some specs and like mages, we really need a bit more coordination then RSS offers. I won like 3 matches in a row a few days ago and rating went up super quick. Now, I lost a few because my traps get broken and I get no help from my team setting up CC. Then, on top of that, hunters are very often the kill target.
This isn’t to say we can’t excel, but there are so many specs that are much more rewarding. So, I’d try to focus on getting a few epics and just copy/paste the builds from the top hunters if you haven’t already.
In the end, unfortunately as well, you just have to keep playing. Eventually it should average out if you’re getting some bad queues. I just had a warrior AFK one match and come back the next. Costed me a game and lost 54 points for it. Because of that, my MMR dropped a bunch and now I’m facing mediocre teams. RSS badly needs a redesign already.
well i have 1900 conquest saved but im waiting to hit 1k to see what i have in the vault, cause i dont wanna blow it all buying the weapon if i have a weapon in the vault. and idk where to get any other gear but honor or conquest. im still really new to wow, so im still learning as i go
I don’t get it either… I was sitting at 1984 rating, played a solo que… only one 2… other players were all 2000-2100 rated… I lost 48! Then got 3 wins next game… they were all 1950-2050 rated… got 1 point… it just seems all over the place.
you gotta grind it out until you’re able to win more than you lose. you can still come back if you go on a winning streak.
