Can someone explain how def rating works with "resilience"?

I saw something online that shows 18 res. is equivalent to 26 def rating… I did some research, now very confused now.

I am using a pretty good PVP necklace which is pretty good for phase 2, which comes with 18 res.

Multiple prot paladins have reassured me this equates to 26 def rating as I only need a 464 def rating as long as I maintain the 18 resilience… (for the magic number, 490 def rating)

It shows adjustments on the fly, and calculates your critability/crushability vs Lv70 and Lv73 mobs, taking resilience into account also. It shows how much more Resilience or Def you will need, too.

Also for heroics you only need 485 def, and nothing in 5mans does crushing at all, so you can pump threat gear once at 485

Res reduces the odds you take a crit.

Defense increases your odds to block perry and dodge on top of reduces the odds to take a crit.

As such per point of res you get more crit suppression than def raiting as it’s doing less.

If you are only looking at crit suppression the stats do the same thing with res in fact being better at it per point. To be exact res is 50 percent better which is how you get than 18 res becoming 26 def.

The stats work directly with each other with res jsut being worth 50 percent more than def.

Thing is as a pally tank you also want uncrushable as well as uncritable for heroics this dosent matter as mobs are not level 73 (the min level req to crush you). Uncrushable requires pushing the chance to be crushed of the combat table via getting 102.4 percent chance (if i remember right someone correct the exact number) to block miss dodge or parry combined. As warcraft always looks at how a hit effects you in order of

Dodge
Perry
Block
Crit
Crush
Normal hit

So if the combined total of the first 4 is greater than that 102.4 number mob can never crush you as such pushing crushing blows of the combat table in effect making you uncrushable. The mobs can still crit you as on the table when holy shield is down, which is why uncritable is also needed, even no the level of avoidance to push crushing off the table also push crit off. A note you will also never take a normal hit if crushing is pushed of the table due to it being after crushing.

When aiming for uncritable abs uncrushable defense is a more effective stat than res and for this reason plate takes norm don’t use res for uncritable for raid tanking least till they have uncrushable covered.

Do note both uncrushable and uncritable assumes buffed and in the pallys case under the effect of holy shield.

So how much raiting do I need to block a perry?

Def rating isn’t the same as Defense skill.

You need 5.6% less chance to be Crit by enemies to be immune to critical hits in PvE, which equates to 490 Defense skill for a prot paladin or 440 for a feral Druid.

You get 1% Crit chance reduction per 39.4 resilience rating, for a total of 221 resilience rating for uncrittable.
You get 1 Defense skill per 2.4 Defense rating.
You need 25 Defense skill per 1% Crit chance reduction, or 60 defense rating, for a total of 336 defense rating for uncrittable. You get 20 Defense skill from your Prot talent which is equivalent to 48 Defense rating.

You can mix and match defense and resilience to reach that 5.6%. Defense however is better overall because it provides you with avoidance to become uncrushable as well. Resilience is usually only considered by feral druids since they can’t block or parry, making defense less attractive overall for them.

For feral, it’s 154 defense rating which equates to 415 defense. They’ll get 3% decreased chance to be crit from the Survival of the Fittest talent which every feral tank will have.

You’re right sorry, I added 1% too much.
