Can somebody help me pick out a laptop?

Hello, I never used a laptop before. I’ve always used desktops and still do. The only reason I’m wanting a laptop is because I have been helping my aunt by staying over and watch over her disabled son and wait for her to come home. This usually is about 4-5 hours. And he’s in bed sleeping during these hours but she wants me here so somebody will be at the home with her son.

So I was thinking of getting a laptop to play games on while I’m here. My budget is 1,500 and I would like to play a variety of games from WoW, assassins creed, elder scrolls, fallout 76.

My only question/concern. They don’t have internet/WiFi at this house, is it possible to connect to the internet with the laptop some way? Like do they have a built in modem or something? I don’t know much about computers and tried googling this info but I don’t understand it. If not then I guess I’ll pass on buying a laptop, I would need internet.

Thank you for any help.

Im here to help. These laptops are in your budget of 1500. The 17" is slightly over it. They are more equipped then some desktops and built for gaming. If you have a costco membership they have some very nice MSI Gaming laptops which will be under your budget. If not check the links below

Here is a very good MSI laptop from Costco 17.3" screen (This is the best deal if you have a costco Membership) If you dont have a costco membership check out the amazon links I posted below.

Makes sense man. I only play on a laptop these days. I have a Lenovo Legion Y540…I was skeptical of Lenovo brand but I am beyond pleased with the performance. I’ve had an ASUS ROG laptop in the past and meh, wouldn’t buy one of those again.
It has the latest i7, a 2060, and a 17 inch screen with 144hz refresh rate. It cost me $1300, but I got $110 cash back through Rakuten(10% back on Lenovo products)

With that budget you should definitely get a 17 inch screen. Do not get a 15.6 inch, too small! Make sure you have an SSD for quick boot and load times.

Check Rakuten for 10% cash back at Lenovo.

To answer your Internet question, if they have a non wireless router you can plug directly in with an Ethernet cable. However if they have no Internet period your only option would be to use hotspot and connecting to the Internet through your phone using Bluetooth or another device. Most new laptops have built in blue tooth. You can also buy devices that plug into the laptop that can connect to the internet but you’d have to pay a monthly fee for something like that.

All 3 of what I listed above have an M.2 SSD. The 15.5" has a 240Hz IPS Display and a RTX 2070. Both 17" has a RTX 2070 Super in it and a 144Hz IPS panel which is sick. Id personally get the MSI at that price. Costco also extends warranties on computers for FREE! Not sure if OP has a costco membership though.

I agree and disagree with you about the screen size. 15.6" is fine. Its also a lot better on battery life and power consumption I also always have my laptop screen VERY close to me so.

Rog Products hold up very well! I always buy one of their laptops. They are essentially a desktop. Im on on my second laptop from them thats 5 years old with a GTX 1080 ti in it. Still runs like new. My one before that was one of their first. Lasted me 6years. 0 issues.

Thank you very much! I’m going to check these out. And yes, my dad has a costco membership.

Thank you for your help. A question about this comment. Does connecting to my phone cost money? I have an unlimited data plan but I’ve never connected a laptop to my phone.

I will look into the other thing you mentioned, the device I can connect to the internet but have to pay a monthly fee for, I use comcast so I assume that’s who I would buy the device from.

I’m interested in that costco one you linked me, right at my budget and looks like a good one, I’m going to go tomorrow and see if they have it in stock otherwise I guess I will need to order it. Thank you for your help!

The costco one is your best bang for your buck

I bought a Lenovo Legion 5 for $1200 USD with a 10th gen I7 6core and RTX 2060 and I locked in at 120 fps on the 120hz display at almost all times in Shadowlands with near ultra settings. view distance toned down a little. I feel it was a great investment compared to other laptops I purchased and I was able to get 2 years in home accidental damage warranty with that price. Sure enough i spilled drink 2 weeks later and they came out next day with brand new motherboard. Lenovo has been amazing to deal with and the laptop is awesome.

I have bought several laptops, upgraded them and eventually sold them for profits.

The best manufactures that I’ve come across in terms of performance have been the Acer Predator series, Lenovo Legion and the HP Omen series within the past couple years.

MSI, Gigabyte and Asus are alright but they tend to have higher thermals and just slight design flaws.

Currently rocking a Lenovo Legion Y740 that I hustled someone down to $600. I get anywhere between 70-144 FPS w/ the 9750H and 1660 TI at like 7-9 setting index.
