Can Only Connect Sometimes - TBC Classic

On login to TBC Classic I will sometimes be able to connect to servers and sometimes can’t. It hangs at the “Logging in to game server” box and then gives me error WOW51900328. When I am able to get into the game, sometimes zoning into dungeons/releasing spirit when dead will disconnect me. I have tried all of the troubleshooting on the error page.

  • Uninstalled all addons.
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled WoW
  • Turned off computer, router, and modem and restarted them all (Modem -> Router -> computer).

I ran a WinMTR test. Added the host IP ran WoW and wasn’t able to connect.
I’m connected via Ethernet to my router.

Thanks for the help.

Hey there Beefz,

Thanks for including so much info and letting us know what you’ve done to try to figure out that WOW51900328 error. It is frustrating trying to figure out what causes this general connection error for TBC Classic. Usually it’s due to a connection problem, yet interfering programs or UI issues can also be factors.

The Winmtr looks pretty healthy and you did that reset, so I have two other ideas to try.

The first is to see if you have any Quality of Service programs running like HP Omen or ASUS ROG Gamefirst. Such programs can block the connection on a per application basis, so toggling the network monitoring off or just uninstalling it can help.

The other idea is to try another connection. A hotspot or tether with a mobile device can test the connection. If you find that helped, then checking the Quality of Service (QoS) setting in the router settings can help. Similar to the programs, it is traffic mitigation that can mess with the priority of the connection from other services. Please check with the router manufacturer’s manual or ISP if provided by them for checking the QoS Setting.

Hopefully this helps figure out so you can connect reliably. Regards!
