Can mortals be 'ascended' to a Dragonkin?

I guess my question here is - is it appropriate RP-wise that I RP my character as a mortal who has been transformed/ascended to a Dragonkin while using the Dracthyr model?

I’m not saying my character has turned into a dragon, but rather a dragonspawn or drakonid.

Is this lore friendly? Is this something that can actually happen in Warcraft? Do we know any specific examples?

Draconic ascension is a thing. Nefarian, son of Neltharion, tried his hand at it, with Maloriak (Boss in Blackrock Descent) being a successful experiment, the dungeon journal says he used to be an alchemist that had the ascension forced upon him.

Less famously, the Cult of Twilight also tapped into this power when they took over Blackrock Caverns, with Corla, one of the Twilight Heralds, ascending her own soldiers. It is unknown whether this was the Cult stealing the secrets from Nefarian or a modification of the elemental ascension rituals.

You could be a reformed Twilight Cultist, ones of Nefarian’s experiments, or something similar, but as always your RP results depend highly on who you are crafting the story with. Sounds plausible!

Maloriak was a “successful” experiment?

He walked and talked and wasn’t a puddle of goo or a corpse. I’d count that in the win column.

Old lore, yes. New lore? Unclear. Hasn’t been addressed in years.
According to the old RPG books Dragonspawn were mortals ascended into Dragonkin by dragons. Of course, those aren’t canon anymore. In new lore, stuff like Maloriak exists but it’s less ascended and more a freak experiment kind of thing.

Yes. The Dragonspawn and Drakonid are, theoretically, former mortals who were gifted draconic power. However, it is unknown if that has been changed since then. But for now, I would operate under the assumption that they are indeed dragonsworn who have ascended into dragonkin.

I say theoretically, because I don’t recall any instance of their ascension occurring “on-screen” so to speak. The RPGs are non-canon, but when looking at a total lore void, they can be turned to as a temporary gap-filler, at least until official sources introduce a more reliable canon.

Thank you guys!

According to what lore there was it was a gradual change over generations.
