TL;DR: We can mine Truesilver now, but we can’t smelt it. Truesilver is used in the new endgame profession items. This needs to be fixed.
A big problem in Phase 1 that went largely unspoken and unaddressed was the issue of Gold Veins. You couldn’t mine them, which put a finite number on the amount of Iron Deposits that you could mine before a Gold Vein spawned and effectively bricked your mining route.
The only saving grace to this issue was that SoD’s new dynamic layering system constantly spun up and spun down new and old layers throughout the day, artificially reseting the Gold Veins and making it possible to go and farm Iron in zones again every so often.
This problem persisted throughout all of Phase 1 and as someone who made the majority of my gold from Mining, it was incredibly frustrating to deal with.
But I didn’t complain too much because Gold wasn’t very useful in Phase 1 anyways… and there was a light at the end of the tunnel! Phase 2 was just around the corner, and would bring with it the coveted Advanced Mining enchant to gloves. This would allow us to get a maximum total of 230 mining so that the Phase 1 problem with Gold Veins couldn’t repeat itself with Truesilver.
Well, I got my gloves with +5 enchanting today. I went out to the Badlands and mined 24 Truesilver in an hour on top of all the Mithril I could ever want or need. Felt really good too… until I got back to Ironforge and tried to train Smelt Truesilver.
Turns out even with glove enchant, you cannot learn Smelt Truesilver because it takes 230 organic Mining Skill to train.
This wouldn’t be so infuriating if Truesilver was as useless in Phase 2 as Gold was in Phase 1. At least we’re able to clean up the Truesilver Nodes from the server ourselves in this Phase.
However…
Low-Background Truesilver Plates made by Blacksmiths and Polished Truesilver Gears made by Engineers are necessary items for making the epic helms that were put in Phase 2 for Crafting Professions. Both require Truesilver Bars to craft.
And the only way to get Truesilver Bars is either through running around looting Solid Chests in high level zones, or a 2 day transmute from Alchemists.
I want to believe that this is an oversight on Blizzard’s part. I want to believe that they didn’t really intend to dunk on the Mining Profession for not one, but TWO phases in a row.
But seriously… can we get a hotfix on this or something? Please let us smelt Truesilver Ore in Phase 2. Literally what could it possibly hurt?
