Can I share my UI configuration with other characters on my account?

Since we can (need to) customize our UI, is there as way to share my UI configuration with other characters on my account?

Your UI is saved to your account. When you go to edit on a new character, simply select the profile which you made the edits to.

Well, I made all my changes in this character and saved them, logged in another character and had to start over with he new one. Then I logged in Catelan again and none of my changes were saved  not sure what I’m doing wrong here.

You are not doing anything wrong. Two different things here, from what I can tell:

  • The UI layout doesn’t include the actual buttons on the action bar. Those cannot be saved and ported across, you’ll just have to do it manually.

  • The UI configuration (meaning the HUD objects you move around in Edit mode) are supposed to be saved, but that part is broken. I haven’t been able to keep my changes either, even though I made sure to save them to a new custom profile, more than once. Others have reported the same bug. I was hoping that today’s maintenance might fix it since to me it’s a game-breaking bug but…this is Blizzard, who are we kidding. I’m sure they have higher priorities, like someone having too much fun in game.

Thank you for that, I really needed to laugh hard today :hugs:

Make sure you are hitting the “save” button when you’re done exiting instead of the “X” on the window. I don’t know for certain, but that could be part of the issue.

I’ve also noticed that some addons weirdly interact with the edit functionality, so perhaps one of your addons is messing up the editing function and that’s why they are not saving.

All I know is that if you make any changes to the UI, it asks you to make and name a profile loadout. If you are on an alt and select that profile, it should keep every change you made to the UI.

After you get the UI set-up the way you like it, under the drop-down menu where it says “modern” or “classic” you want to tell it to create a new saved layout and name that layout whatever you want to call it.

Then when you go to a new toon go to edit mode and click the drop down , where it says Modern - Classic, and choose the new name from your previous set-up.
Spells and such will still have to be set for each toon.

Okay, in “HUD Edit Mode” on this character (Catelan) I saved the layout and named it “Catelan”.

Logged in another character, went into edit mode, and under “Layout” in the upper left corner of the HUD Edit Mode screen the only options are:

  • General
  • Modern
  • Classic (which isn’t really “classic” at all)
  • New layout (Im guessing that’s where you save a new layout?)
  • Import (not sure what to do with that )
  • Share (?)

I moved everything where I wanted and saved/named the layout and when I go to my alts I just click that layout from the drop down menu and it loads it in.

The problem is after saving (and naming) the UI setup for the other character, that named setup does NOT appear in the Layout options of the HUD Edit Mode for my other alt character.

Thats exactly what I want to do but its not working. I may need a stiff drink

Unload all of your addons, restart wow, and it will likely fix the save issue.

Make your UI changes and save it. It should now be available on your other characters.

When your done, turn the addons back on.

Okay, I’ll do it one more time but that’s it! :crossed_fingers:

Update: tuning off all add ons seemed to work! Now to turn on addons one at a time to find the culprit.

Many thanks to you all

I deleted every single add-on before the servers went down for pre-patch update since I was going to have to get new ones anyway. There was no way a change this major wasn’t going to invalidate all the things.

I made the perfect UI config on my main and I assumed I would see it on all m toons using the name I gave the UI but I didn’t. I discovered that you have to click the actions bars and they will appear right where you placed them on the original toons.
