Trying to boost my other old PC..
Specs: i7 7700k 4.20Ghz OC'ed to 5Ghz and stable fine 40-50c temps while gaming.
I have a stock 32GB Ram with 2133MHz speed..
I tried the XMP option, But there are no profiles...
My Motherboard: Z170A-GAMING-M3.
Is it safe to change the DRAM frequency to test out while having the voltage on Auto? Sorry I'm not an expert just trying to be safe without burning anything.
And would that even effect my FPS in WoW?
Intel does not scale as well for ram speed for performance in gaming. You may see some improvement going to 3200 MHz but it won't be large at all. As for overclocking ram you deal with the silicon quality of the ram and usually the 2133 sticks may not OC very well. You might be able to OC them to 2400 the next jump up in speed but there are a lot of things you have to do and overclocked memory when not stable can cause a lot of weird issues.
You can look up youtube videos on how to OC memory for intel but I wouldn't bother.

So I should stick with 2133MHz for WoW? I guess :/
I searched for a lot of info... ya people been saying just like you RAM doesn't effect WoW a lot...
Depends on the chip type, quality, etc. I have a ryzen memory timing program you select the type of chips used in your ram (down too the revision) and gives you "safe" or "performance" ranges people normally get down to the sub timings. "ranges" as it depends on your specific kit.
You've OCed your CPU which is the only meaningful OC with that system for WoW.
That's great, OP has an Intel CPU so this is all pointless.10/30/2018 08:39 AMPosted by RagequittenI have a ryzen memory timing program you select the type of chips used in your ram (down too the revision) and gives you "safe" or "performance" ranges people normally get down to the sub timings. Both Intel and Ryzen do scale with ram speed, how much they scale however.......10/30/2018 04:41 AMPosted by Edisbeleeya people been saying just like you RAM doesn't effect WoW a lot...
For Intel you may gain 1-3% FPS depending on game title going from 2133 to 3200 MHz. Making it a single speed jump increase say from 2133 to 2400 will be far less noticeable. So in a game that would normally get 100 fps you might get 103 fps instead which is soo small you would never notice it.
Ryzen however does scale a lot more with ram speed because of how the CPU works. It uses CCX modules for the cores and each CPU has 2 of them (threadripper has more). 4 core CPUs are 2x2, 6 cores are 3x2, and 8 cores are 4x2. Basically AMD only makes 4 core modules and not all of them have each core working to spec so they disable said cores and sell it as a lower end chip. They use an infinity fabric technology to connect the CCXs together for managing data flow to each core cluster. That infinity fabric runs off the same speed as the ram installed so the faster the ram the better the data connectivity is between cores. Thus AMD scales far better with ram speed and 3000 (runs at 2933) and 3200 mhz ram is the sweet spot for Ryzen performance.
This is why you have to really consider which CPU type you have when looking at ram speed.
It's also one of the benefits of Intel - RAM for the most part and for most users is xmp set it and forget it

You can do that with ryzen too...
Set xmp and be on your way
But there's also a ryzen ram calculator that determines on how best you can OC your ram determining the quality of it without going back and forth in BIOS settings finding out if it's stable or not

Don't try to tell me with a straight face that memory compatibility has been a walk in the park for AMD the past couple years.

I did when ram was an issue because ryzen was brand new
X99 at launch had the same issues too around their launch time I believe
https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?57441-RAM-issues-reboot-issues-getting-REALLY-tired
That ram kit Really did help back then, I was one of the few people on Reddit that managed to boot 3200 with just xmp on without error
Yes I know RAM was a problem back then work x370 just like the x99
But there was an actual ryzen certified RAM that actually booted well without an issue
It was expensive yes but there was a RAM kit that was golden back then

Not at all the entire point is no chip die or package behaves the same. It's 100% relative to overclocking ram on Intel.

Perhaps to overclocking, but the yield is not really relevant.
OCing your RAM will help specific parts of the game. Other parts you'll be at 100fps+ with our without OC RAM.
Give it a go, it's free performance.

What is your power supply and are you using SSD ? I didn't see that anywhere in the thread.

Yes I'm using SSD.
And power supply is : Corsair RM 750 W
That Motherboard has issues with performance and most upgrade to the z270. Your hard ware is fine and try getting the exact bios for the CPU from MSI as well. Bugs have been reported with that cpu and MSI has stop supporting I7 for that board. Here are 2 links to help with that info. Buy a new board I am guessing even though its a good board just not with that cpu. Good luck

How can i know that tho?
It's been running great and fine.. I didn't notice any issues at all...
The only main issue I'm having with this PC is that 40man raids or more than 40 people in 1 place.. My fps drop to 40-35+
Even pulling a lot of trash @Zul , results in this kind of fps drops... Otherwise, everywhere in the world.. 5man groups or 25man raids is fine and higher than 60 fps.
I get it it's the Engine limitations.. But i'm really trying everything I could to avoid this kind of FPs drops when there are so many people around
40ppl in 1 spot casting/moving..
11/02/2018 07:49 AMPosted by Edisbeleemore than 40 people in 1 place.. My fps drop to 40-35+
Since it is a limitation in the game engine and those situations will and do tank top end gaming CPUs to low FPS too then there isn't much you can do to fix it. Be glad you have a good PC because a FX CPU would tank to the single digits when you tank to the 40s. 40 fps is MUCH better than sub 10 fps on a potato PC. Also an i7-9700k or i9-9900k OC to 5.0 GHz will give you the exact same performance with WoW because they have the same IPC but just different core/thread counts that WoW can't use at this time.11/02/2018 07:49 AMPosted by EdisbeleeI get it it's the Engine limitations.. Your i7-7700k @5.0 GHz is an awesome gaming CPU as it is.
