I’m currently at 585, holy paladin, and I’ve healed tons of heroics and raid finder without issue. Yesterday I tried my first mythic dungeon. It was m0 Grim Batol and I felt like I was way out of my league. The tank seemed geared enough, he was at like 610 (prot pal) I think but he would seem to take 2/3 of his health in damage at once and I just couldn’t catch up. And at times the whole party was taking so much damage and I couldn’t keep up. I feel like I know the playstyle so I guess my question is - am I geared enough? And was Grim Batol a bad one to start with?
I think as long as you know your toolkit it depends on your PUG. I just tanked a +9 i think City of Threads and found out the healer (key and party leader) was 593. We nearly died to every major damage window but he powered through and we timed it.
Also in lower keys, it could be someone’s first time doing mechanics so they take damage all the time and is harder to heal.
You’ve got to start somewhere so m0’s are great for that. You just have to learn the mechanics that mythic+ gives you and adjust accordingly. Your ilvl is low but that’ll come with time as you progress. Everyone has defensives they have to learn to use as well. It’s not just on the healer to keep people alive and some mechanics can and will absolutely overwhelm the healer if the DPS and tank don’t do what they’re responsible for to stop it. As you get more geared it’ll become easier. It takes time.
This means that the tank wasn’t using defensives and maybe the group wasn’t interrupting important casts. None of this is your fault.
If you want, I can help you with lower keys and teach you some mechanics. Once you learn the main mechanics and how to handle them, everything becomes easier (at least for lower and medium keys, the dungeons from Shadowlands and BfA are the ones I find easiest to heal)
