Can I get an official Blizzard Statement on the Twink XP changes made on PTR

Just to clarify where I’m coming from: I have never twinked a character, nor bought a twink carry.
The only experience I have with this is a friend of mine showing me how fast he could clear a Darkheart Thicket normal back in Legion on his Druid.

I recently saw that there is a change on PTR that would change how twinks’ XP works within parties. For those who are out of the loop, there is a change on the PTR that will reduce the XP gains of anyone who is partied with a twink who has elected to stop their XP, by 95%. This is probably to stem the use of 110-111 twinks for boosting characters through BFA leveling by running Islands and Freehold normal, which a twinked 110-111 DH, for example, can clear very fast (from what I hear).

I’m unsure how I feel about this. I’ve always thought working on a twink like that would be a fun goal to do in my downtime, like transmog runs or mount/pet farming. It would be kind of like farming a set of gear for timewalking, a fun side activity in line with the theme park nature of WoW.

So I was little bummed to see this change, not because it affects how I currently play the game, but because it takes away another activity in a game that, to be honest, has been struggling to keep player’s engagement recently.

On top of that, I think this has a chance to backfire and alienate the player base more.

So, I’d like to hear everyone’s thoughts on this, and possibly have a CM see this and shed some more light on the dev’s reasoning behind it. I know a lot of people are worried this isn’t just for pre-Partied members, but grouped members in LFG as well, so some clarification early on could do a world of good for how people take this.

In short, I’m not sure how I feel about this change. I think I’m leaning toward wanting to keep things as is, just for the sake of not taking away another possible way to play and activity.

You don’t need a dev to tell you why they did it. Slower leveling = more WoW Store boosts. End of story.

You can’t actually. Asking for one is against the code of conduct for these forums.

Store boosts end at 110, which is where XP-off boosting is, so no, twink boosts dont negatively effect store boosts. In fact, they encourage them.

Where do you think most people get the gold to buy carries? Buying wow tokens.

The only way I could see this from a financial perspective is if 120 boosts were coming, which I suspect is the case. If not, then they are doing this for philosophical reasoning, which would be unexpected but welcome if it was for a change that I thought was good for the game.

Except boosts are to level 110. This change affects leveling from 110-120. A boost won’t help players here.

Not right now, no. But how far are we from 120 boosts going up for sale?

Blizzard always extends their boosts to max level during the final few patches of an expansion.

One can assume, based on history, that they will be follwing suit this expansion.

If players have an alternative way to aquire the same service that does not NECESSARILY involve payment to Blizzard, then it would not be prudent for the new boosters (Blizzard) to allow the old boosters (twinks) to continue those services.

When one posseses the ability to literally stomp out a competitor in a competitive environment, he/she/it generally will.

Gotta sell those 120 boosts soon sonehow.

I think they have made it very clear they have no desire what so ever to actually openly communicate with their playerbase / customers.
