Because I really prefer a Sword and Shield as a Holy Spec despite the shield being made for Prot Paladins in Classic.

Well, no. āProtectionā Paladins will use a defensive shield. But most Paladins will be healers, using the Zulian Defender pre-Epics, or the Rattlecage Buckler, or Sacred Protector etc.

Thereās not a whole lot of Caster-oriented 2 handers outside of staves so as holy youāll be healing with a caster 1 hander + shield.

The AV rep offhands. Easy to grind and pretty darn good. I donāt think thereās too many other worthy ones.
So you will use whatever has better healing stats if you are healing with pally, whether that is 2her, 1h+offhand or 1h+shield.
Typically you will lean towards 1h+shield because those items have the least competition with other classes.
Oh and assuming all of the possible items have equivalent stats you should take the 1h+shield for the extra armor for survivability, its a minor advantage but it is still technically an advantage.

Saw staves mentioned earlier, didnāt double check it cause it didnāt really affect the point I was trying to make, i have not played my pally in a long time and i never heal with him. Either way thanks for letting me know, i fixed it.
There are only a handful of non-staff 2h healing weapons (Hammer of the Grand Crusader from Live Strat is one, Finkleās Lava Dredger from MC is another). Typically, holy paladins will use a shield and either a 1H sword or 1H mace. At one time +healing items were completely different than +damage items so there was more of a delineation between healer items and ācasterā items. At some point, they merged the two into ā+healing and damageā so the line blurs a bit on who rolls on what loot.
Absolutely. Most paladins other than Ret will be using a shield + 1h. There is no reason not to.
In PvE you want whatever has the best healing stats as holy, which is typically 1-hander + offhand(shield or otherwise).
In PvP you want a healer shield for the armour.
Your 1-hander wont strictly speaking be a sword though. There isnāt really a lot of good healer swords. Itās primarily maces.

If you want to use a 2 handed sword, Runeblade of Baron Rivendareās healing effect scales with +spell healing. It will pass a fully talented renew with 400 spell healing at 400 spell healing.
Well, that is if you are lucky enough to get one.
Azuresong Mageblade would last you a long time
