I’m not advocating for this by any means, but the talk about them being sentient being an issue is brought, in which point I ask, what about Gryphons and Wyverns? Those can be used as mounts and hunter pets, and they are both described as being intelligent, with Wyverns even being able to talk.
Well if not real dragons how bout mechanical ones?
Hunters don’t force their pets into servitude. They bond with them as a companion.
As long as dragons were introduced via a questline where we gain the blessing of the leaders of the broods to seek out members of their flights to bond with and fight with, it technically would make sense in the lore.
Also, not all dragons in WoW are sentient.
Proto Dragons are not Sentient anymore for instance, they lost it somehow.
There’s quite a few species of dragons like this.
Not to mention we have quite a few non-combat pet dragons.
