Can dwarves bear children? And other general dwarf RP info

Hello! I’m trying to get into RP for dwarves, but i’m not too familiar with their lore. I understand they came from stone (I think), but they seem fleshy now. That being said, can they bear children?

And also, any general info for RPing a dwarf would be appreciated

Dwarves can indeed bear children, as we see dwarf infants in game. The most notable example being Dagran Thaurissan II, who despite being birthed by Moira Thaurissan 11 years ago is still portrayed in game as an infant. But then, dwarves in WoW have lifespans that go up to 250+ so maybe they take longer to grow up.

Although dwarves used to be titan constructs, they were afflicted by the old gods with the Curse of Flesh and have all the properties that implies. Vyrkul also used to be titan constructs before they were afflicted and we know from a quest chain in Howling Fjord that they also bear children in ‘the usual way’ so I don’t see why it would be different for dwarves.

Thanks! Time to start filling out this TRP profile lol

Glad to have been of help. A few other tidbits about dwarf rp that I think are worth considering.

  • Dwarf society has split itself along three different subcultures, Clan Bronzebeard, Clan Darkiron, and Clan Wildhammer. The history and culture of these clans matter, so I recommend reading up on them a bit on Wowpedia or Wowwiki if you have not already.

  • Alchohol is a part of dwarven culture, but don’t go overboard with it. A common mistake amongst dwarf rpers is that they basically let their characters devolve into drunken irish stereotypes. There is alot more to being a dwarf than that.

  • That being said, it is is okay to be a little silly if you wish. There is nothing remotely mature about pretending to be a squat bearded creature in a fantasy world. Don’t take yourself too seriously, and don’t be afraid to embrace your inner child.

Hope these tidbits help. And remember to keep yer feet on the ground!

Only dwarf hunters can handle bear children. Rawr. :joy:  :bear:

But yes, as stated above, dwarves can birth infants. There actually used to be or is an orphanage somewhere in the game where there’s just a bunch of cradles with like a dwarf baby, a night elf baby, and a few others. I believe even a tauren? I don’t remember where it is, I want to say somewhere in and around the Barrens, but you can look it up

The orphanage in question is in Shattrath City.

Its actually kind of creepy. Challe’s Home for little Tykes can be found in the mountains between Nagrand and Zangarmarsh in the BC expansion, and looks like it’s a refuge for all sorts of orphans found from both factions. The afore mentioned Challe, a troll woman, is the only adult there.

If you look behind the hut, you’ll find cages with tiny bones. We also learned in WoD that this Challe was some malevolent being who sucks the life force out of people, and luckily, there is a quest to kill her.

Back to topic, while we know of dwarves having children with other dwarf clans, do we have any examples of a dwarf hybrid? Like dwarf and gnome, or dwarf and human, or elf?

Shush, Dwarves are known to be quite… (using orc word here) fecund. Lore beyond WoW supports this also. Perhaps even… within WoW (I’ve not looked yet).
I imagine that there are more than a few instances of… moments of indiscretion which resulted in children - Dwarves drink…
60 bucks to play game, half of that 60 is RPG… MMO happens, RPG is created. I vote: viable

Taking advantage of the thread.

A sober dwarf monk could work? I know monk and dwarf is doubling down on the beer theme, but there is one dwarf in the order hall that seems more like a martial artist. I’m thinking of making a dwarf/dark iron or gnome monk that i think fit my character themes better than a night elf, and was wondering that, since drinking a lot of alcohol is a theme i personally don’t like, but i love the whole Metal and mountain themes of dwarves.

If we go by one source, there no female dwarves, just males in drag.

But as we know already Moira HAS borne a child. which gives her claim on two of the three dwarven thrones.

My apologies for the confusion. What I was describing as “creepy” was the story of Challe. I’m a big fan of dwarves, and hope they can continue to do their thing.

We know dwarves can bear children. Moira has.

Of course they can. Through if they bear children of other races like Humans or High Elves for example. That would be a different story.
