Being that this phase is entirely new and no one knew anything about it, this might be a taste of what Classic+ will “feel” like. The newness. The room for error. Mistakes. Bugs. Inconveniences that can occur. etc.
Given the uproar over this raid, it makes me question how much appetite does this audience - all Classic players and not just Sod, have for something new?
Why on earth would Blizzard even bother releasing anything new for us? 4 days into the raid and the sky is falling. It’s the trend from Classic Vanilla and so forth. When some challenge happens, people quit. It was especially funny in Classic Vanilla when Naxx dropped and a ton of guilds split because they couldn’t do it. The private server flow chart they were following didn’t quite work so they couldn’t figure out how to adapt.
For once, people have to play the game and they don’t like it. And yes, that means the bugs, the over tuning, class imbalances and all the dynamic changes that come with it. Adapting is part of playing an MMORPG.
Blizzard has nothing to gain by creating a newish game for us.
Shill to World Zero because for a Roblox game, that’s a pretty mean MMORPG.
Main difference between OG classic and Scarlet Enclave was: The devs also never made raids or anything like world of Warcraft before, so room for error on overtunning was fine.
The Difference here is decades of Experience on making raids and seeing the damage players are doing in Nax hm0-Nax HM4 with max seal buffs. Then taking that into account and doing the math what the Damage and healing would be with out said buffs.
But they didn’t do that they took the numbers we did in Nax with max seals and slightly tunned the raid bosses below those numbers.
So yes the devs overtuned the raid and didn’t look at previous raid teir numbers when creating the dmg and health pools of some of the bosses in Enclave.
they took the hardest hm 4 last two bosses and used that as a baseline to balance the floor of difficulty in the new raid.
people werent expecting that and i think its a tough ask for people to just jump in and bang their head on a wall that at least 60% of the players have no chance at even getting the second boss down.
its a bit silly dont you think?
if they base everything in a new classic + to be of that level it will die in its crib well before getting its start.
Pretending like shipping an incredibly poorly polished phase and getting bad community reaction for it is unwarranted makes no sense.
Naxx had ptr/progressive difficulties/seal/reasonable loot scaling and a 5 man multiple weeks before launch that dropped better gear than aq40 all contributed to a better phase and are all sorely lacking now
It’s not even the fact that it’s “next level”. We’re not even 4 days into the first lock out. Let that sink in for a bit. People aren’t even willing to simply play the game, try for a week or 2, and see what happens. If the baseline is way too high, then the game isn’t for some and by all means quit. But we’re not even 4 days in …
tuning the floor difficulty of a new raid to the hardest hard mode available of the last two bosses in hm naxx 4 difficulty is silly.
why would 60% of the player base AT LEAST play for 2 weeks and bang their head against the wall on an obviously overtuned raid so that the devs can milk the content for as long as they can?
also why would they make the huge mistake of making any new classic + that level of difficulty when this is clearly not the audience for it?
because vanilla WAS about the journey. pretty much every raid minus MC when first released weas overtuned for their perspective current patch ver at the time and there was a learning curved. The differences between vanilla and classic being that classic is a solved game and has better supporting tools/hardware. OP is right any kind of classic+ is going to fail because of the mentality shift in the target demographic. where any type of adversity is met with whining and giving up. classic players at the end of the day are gaming tourists and wallet warriors.
The issue with new scarlet raid is everyone thought it would be a little difficult but duable when in reality the sweats couldnt get pass the 2nd boss the hardcore elite players struggled for the ENTIRE day trying to clear a boss where as naxx they just made too easy compared to other raids thruout SOD, Classic+ will be fun to do theyll always be crying so far scarlet raids alot of fun nerf the ammount of trash and nerf the bosses hps slightly and its duable for good guilds
I guess i don’t. I might if there was 0 progression.
But thing is here, most guilds already killed 1 boss. Probably got a couple attempts in the 2nd before they quit. That’s not enough progress for them to come back to try again instead of walking away with their tails between their legs? Like, what more do they want? It’s a small instance with only 8 bosses.
I knew players had problems adapting but, this is an all time low to me.
now kill the first part of the kt fight while also dealing with class calls and fighting kt himself and dodging waves of adds depenending on whos empowered and who you choose to lock out. also theres a tank switch.
also theres an enrage timer and the adds will overwhelm you if you dont also cleave the whole fight.
sure sounds like at least 60 % of the raiding playerbase wouldnt even stand a chance to get her to 50% hp.
its silly to ask that many people to just “wait and see” when people are clamouring to see the new content and all they see is the first trash the first boss and the second large amount of trash and wipe on the second boss over and over.
define over and over. It’s one lockout where they killed once boss and got what 3-4 attempts on the other? That’s hardly over and over.
Now if the following week, most guilds showed no improvement over last? That is a bit worrisome.
The basis of my discussion is that … it’s been one lockout. Your guild killed a boss and got a taste of the second and we couldn’t down her. The sky is now falling. That literally is the sequence of events.
i actually just got done raiding for the night and we downed beatrix and dragon and were working on hunter but ran out of time.
im saying over and over if they dont nerf it by quite a bit as there will be people just making no progress on the fight for weeks on end without a very considerable nerf to the content.
you missread the room if you think the playerbase of classic season of dads would have even 30% of the players down 2nd boss within 3 weeks of it coming out with no changes.
For my perspective as someone who’s cleared all the Naxx they care to, Season of Discovery is pretty much over. The devs knocked it out of the park with Karazhan and it was universally loved because it something new that wasn’t a raid.
They should have launched P8 with at least one or two new dungeons, really anything to do other than a single overtuned raid and a new town that’s barren of activities. Just a death trap of a zone that you have to buy an outrageously expensive outfit to not be murdered in.
You can’t even pug the new raid so if I’m a player who isn’t in a guild, what the heck is there to do? Farm reals for gold I don’t need? The worst part about SoD is … it’s just so boring. I can log into any other version of the game and go have fun, but in SoD I’m burning HOURS trying to even find groups for practically anything.
People love 5-mans, they like farming reps for cool rewards, farming a currency to buy a piece of gear. If all they have to offer is a new raid that’s catered toward the top guilds, I can’t see SoD experiencing any major growth.
If that is what Classic+ is going to be like, I hope they don’t waste their time. Just keep rehashing old content and move onto SoD TBC.
If Classic+ is only endgame content, it won’t hold up either. Look at TurtleWoW, they’ve launched multiple new lower level cities and dungeons in the last couple years.
You’d think new dungeons would be easy wins for SoD.
The problem that people don’t seem to understand is this is supposed to be a 20 man raid. Groups are bringing 40 people into it and still getting walled by the second boss because of things not dying fast enough. If you bring 40 people into a 20 man raid it should fall over with near 0 difficulty because your having to split a 20 man loot pool among 40 players instead.
