Basically title, I know there is the 2h talent in the blood tree, but I am wondering if this is viable at all. It seems like you would be able to get more defense stats from two tank weapons that are meant for prot paladins/warriors who need a 1h + shield.
You’re right but most people don’t want to lose the threat. 2h benefits more from parry and rune strike. If you want to DW tank, you may as well go frost, the build intended for it. Then all your strikes use both weapons.
Edit: Forgot to mention that swinging more at a boss also causes them to get more parries.
May blood dks have done dw tanking especially early on where two tank weapons would give defensive stats that almost no 2h weapons have (and no good 2h weapon has tank stats).
this is untrue. First of all DK threat is going to be more than anything else a matter of icy touch with its insane threat modifier. Secondly rune strike will do way more damage with DW than with 2h.
Yes, that big 150% weapon damage is going to be more with a 2h weapon, but rune strike is an “on next melee” attack type ability meaning you can only use it as often as you swing, which is going to be alot slower with a 2h weapon.
On the other hand with DW a faster weapon means faster rune strikes so in the same time frame you can do 2 and 1/3 rune strikes with a slightly smaller +150% bonus, as well as the same flat (818 damage + the same flat threat modifier )x 2.333 AND while DW while rune strike is queued your off hand has the same hit chance as your special melee attacks.
The ONLY downside to DW tanking is that more attacks me a greater chance to cause the boss to parry and as such parry haste, but in this phase of the game the tuning on the hard hitting bosses is so tight that blizzard opted to remove the parry haste factor on the harder hitting bosses.
Honestly frost tank may be the better build if you’re tanking 5 mans, blood tanking has aoe threat issues that howling blast would solve. in either case DW tank is fine
Secondly damage isn’t your main concern it’s threat, and damage does play a part in threat, but abilities that do increased threat like rune strike at a flat amount of threat to every hit, more hits = more threat
Anything after was trolling. Contrary to popular belief, your DPS matters.
It’s free DPS staying away from Dual Wielding and you’ve got plenty of options on the Free-Handout vendor.
If you’re rolling a BDK, have a look at WCL and look at the specs BDK’s a running.
Wowhead had rubbish-tier talent trees listed for P1-P3 (haven’t looked at P4, but I assume it’s the same), use real world data, inspect some on your server, join the DK discord.
