Can anyone tell me about their experience at max level right now?

I’m trying to decide on a new main and I keep thinking about Mage, but I’m primarily a solo player so survivability means a lot to me. And as I’m leveling I’m hitting a few snags, but overall I’m doing well I think.

But I’m worried about what it’s like doing dailies and rares as a Mage once you hit max level. So before I put the time in I wanted to see if anyone would be will to share their experiences.

So do you guys feel like your in a good spot once you hit max for general PvE content?

I’m speaking as a Frost mage.

Doing max level content is… simply not fun. You might find it easier as Fire or Arcane because they pack more punch in terms of power. But overall, the class sounds to be suffering from a lack of power. Frost just seems to be getting the worst of it though.

If you enjoy the class, then keep playing it. I personally can’t. It simply feels discouraging to play as a Frost mage, and the other specs do not interest me. Other classes don’t appeal either.

Take your time, don’t rush to hit max level.

I guess I will keep switching back and forth to see which class I like more then.

If you’re new, find what catches your attention and run with it.

Arcane can mow solo content down with ease. Not the greatest for other things, but solo and world content sure.

Mage is probably the worst solo class in the game.

More downtime than any other dps spec between pulls and no self healing.

Despite the mixed feelings from mage mains, I believe that if you play a mage for the first time, there’s a pretty big chance that you’re going to have a blast. There are a lot of those special moments when you perfectly blink something, when the procs line up, when your positioning is solid etc and bam that rewarded feeling is going to give you a lot of joy. If you’re looking for something new and want to have fun, try a mage. Its going to take practice to get into that rythm, but it comes with any new class.

pffffft lol what in comparison to frost? Mages including fire are tedious for solo content.

With Arcane Power? It’s really not that tedious. I’m sure you were one of those Mages crying about not being able to solo Torghast the first week if this is your response lol.

Repetitive, I’ve done the whole “Gear up to M+ ilv” on three different characters now, I don’t really interact with my guild so I just pug and well, it’s as awful as BFA so far.

Don’t get me wrong, the expansion is miles ahead of BFA, but unfortunately my experience remained about the same.

The Maw is pretty unforgiving as a mage. We don’t have any heals and if you are a frost mage your attacks will cleave (ice lance). If someone runs mobs over you when you are fighting something expect to be swamped and dead quick. Perdition hold is especially awful, elite mobs packed in tight. It’s best to group up there if you can but Blizz has made grouping in the Maw impossible.

Sometimes I will just keep hitting a mob with frostbolt and be doing hardly any damage until something procs. How long the proc takes is sometimes comical.

Why don’t you interact with your guild then?
Pugs tend to have one person with anger issues coughbeartankcough or who doesn’t give a damn about the rest of the party coughbeartankcough in them 90% of the time

Because I just usually don’t really connect with them. I don’t know, most guild nowadays have their roots, people they have talked to in a daily basis for years now, every guild I’ve been it felt weird, like I don’t belong there exactly and had little interest in getting to know anyone(This one is just because how I am though.)

IMHO… the mage class isn’t something that’s super enjoyable to do solo content with; it’s much more enjoyable in grouped content where you have some level of control over managing mobs and pacing when paired with a good tank.

Personal recommendations would be to play a BM hunter or Ret Paladin; these are classes that have personal tanks or strong burst + heals which solo content favors far more.

I feel the same way and have for years now. I have never found a guild that felt like “home” to me and the longer I play the more separated I feel. My guild currently I enjoyed playing with at first. But I’m frost so early on I already felt like I was weighing them down in raid. Second time ever in CN and the lead starts trash talking mages over a secure not going out on a trash pull. Haven’t raised with them since. I just feel uncomfortable now. Probably going to ninja gquit tonight and start the process again

I kinda know what you mean. I felt the same way before joining my current guild. Kinda undervalued and like I didn’t belong - at some point even as an officer. Luckily, everyone in my current guild seems chill and people aren’t judged over what spec(s) they play but over how well they play them and how willing they are to prepare for raids/learn mechanics etc. - and by how they are as a person.

It is still possible to find a guild where you can feel at home, I just think the og members often aren’t aware that they often come across as an exclusive clique that doesn’t have space for any new people (imo that’s what’s usually intimidating)

I hope you’ll find the right guild for you soon. The game can feel really lonely without people to do certain content with.

Things like what you wrote always make me kinda sad. Atm as a frost mage I also feel like maybe I should bench myself but fortunately my guild is chill, the gm is chill, and the player (and person) actually matters more than the spec they play.

It’s kinda effed to unironically trash talk specific specs/classes (unless it’s your own spec - we know how that is). Doesn’t help anyone and just makes someone feel bad.

And for every moment like that there are 10 where blink doesnt even work.

I would say look at the mage forums, but literally every class forum has something to whine about.
