Of course I know that, that’s the only thing that makes it tolerable. And yes, it still sucks compared to what you can do with addons like Vuhdo.
Well said!
Everquest, Has a million times more content than WoW will ever have, the gameplay is smooth, tons of classes, TONS of epic gear to quest towards, several versions of class specific “legendaries”, HUGE amount of lore and great stories, NO LFR OR DUNGEON FINDER so you HAVE to find your own group and GO TO THE DUNGEON.
Anyways, to further disagree:
-mechagnomes in heritage armor can be full robots and I think that rules
-I don’t think dranae look human at all-- especially not the men
-dwarves do not look like people they look more like the fae they were based on
-elves in this game look pretty alien but i think they’re the closest to look too human-- epecially belves
I tried FFXIV, got through the base game started in the first expansion. I couldn’t stomach the questing. The story was better than wow’s and the writing/acting is better and I liked the graphics more, but the actual gameplay I found unbelievably tedious. Just the same fetch quest/kill mobs over and over forever with no end in sight. I couldn’t take another 50-100 hours of it so I left. Wow you can get to endgame with minimal repetitive questing, you can choose to level in BGs and dungeons and then it’s like… 10-20 hours of forced questing and that questing is more varied and interesting mechanically.
I also got the sense that pvp wasn’t going to be great in ffxiv, though to be honest I didn’t give it that much of a chance.
Every time I try another MMO my overall sense is that they get one or two things really right that wow doesn’t do that well, but then there’s another dozen features they completely fail at or lack that wow at least does reasonably.
Why has no one mentioned Secret World or Everquest 1? I started out with EQ and thought I would never leave it til I tried WoW after my son urged me to. I went back to it a several years ago when they updated it a bit but - wow - those old graphics are just so awful.
I really liked Secret World too but I found it very hard to solo anything.
oops Denaronis mentions EQ above.
I never said anything looked “Alien”, and I don’t know why you’re calling the hyur “green humans”, lol.
But if it means that my character actually has facial expressions, and the ability to actually move their body like a person instead of a robot, I’m fine with the various races being more human-like than in WoW.
Now, would I like to see more like the Hrothgar and maybe even the Lupin? That would be cool, but you’re talking about trying to make an alien or animal race that is rigged up to complex models that can move facial muscles for animations.
If you actually played that game for any length of time, you’d know that the characters can bend their lips for smiling, or frowning, or getting an angry look on their faces. The muscles above the eyebrows can make their eyes squint, their jaws can clench and the characters can grit their teeth.
This would be insanely difficult to do with animal races, which is why the hrothgar are the only race to date like this. Also rigging up complex armor physics on animal heads… again, it’s why hrothgar can’t display most helmets.
You can have alien races, but they all move and look generic and there’s no expression… or you can have incredibly expressive characters but they all look humanoid. One or the other, can’t have both, at least not yet.
That’s a consequence of having such a long history.
I’ve tried a few other MMOs, but yeah, nothing compares to WoW when it comes to size and variety and world design. So I keep coming back to WoW.
Runequest is a WoW clone (of early WoW no less) but is FAR too much pay to win IMO. Zone layout especially in the newer content is also laid out far too linearly. OTOH, you can literally multiclass by having one character be three different classes (at least when I last played) with the two secondary classes providing extra abilities to whatever your main class is at the moment. But class balance is bad and God help you if the class combo you pick don’t synergize with each other.
Perfect World is way too grindy and gear variety is far too limited… and you probably have to pay for it anyway. On the plus side (which isn’t much a plus), one playable race gets flight early on.
Adventure Quest 3D is also grindy, but in a sort of fun way (at least until the fun wears off) and the story such as it is is funny and irreverent at times and very much tongue in cheek. But the selection of abilities is very limited compared to WoW and I find the list like inventory system unintuitive. Also every thing is soloable, so there’s not much incentive to form groups. But it’s main selling point is that one character can be ANY class and swap them on the fly outside combat, so there’s literally no incentive to level an alt.
Can anyone really think apples are the best fruit? bananas are clearly superior.
ESO has better holiday events and rewards for them. Their version of archeology is much better too - WoW says they are reworking it and I can’t help to think if they are going to follow the ESO model.
Also, while the “loop” may make you want to die, you can unsub and jump right back in if you want. But I always log into ESO for their holiday events.
Nothing beats a good honey crisp apple!
Why would I ever eat a banana when I can eat a kiwi? =D
I’ve heard this excuse before but it’s pretty easy to do with just eye and eyebrow expressions alone. You don’t have to make their face muscles move like people’s do and plenty of the ff14 expressions are uncanny valley anyway. (Looking at you asahi, lol.)
I still miss CoH & CoV
Yes because there isn’t one blanket answer for this kind of question, what the best is to me and you might not be the same to someone who say loves lord of the rings so that MMO is their favorite etc …
I would absolutely love if Blizzard took some inspiration from ESO’s events, they’re amazing.
I just cannot get into how the combat works in that game, at all, and it makes me a little sad - 'cause everything else about it seems fantastic. And yeah, the sub being optional is a big plus point - especially given how pointless WoW’s sub seems these days.
Yeah I’m definitely more hopeful for the future of the franchise now then I have been in years. I really, really hope Microsoft really uses that series to its full potential.
Right, because the only thing you’re going to do is move your eyes a little when you’re happy or mad. Okaaay.
Better is subjective. There are definitely other MMOs I enjoy playing and will almost certainly return to at some point. FFXIV, to name one.
I’m the same way. I would LOVE to play that game, but that combat is just absolutely horrid, it completely kills the game for me.
