It seems like every phase of the game only armor-associated crafting is getting any cool stuff
Even enchanting at least got it’s own additional extra steroid
Is alchemy going to get a decent version of Philo stone, or a permaflask that isn’t bound to a freaking instance? It’s ridiculous everyone else gets to walk around with OP new formulas, meanwhile I get to pick flowers and get ripped off selling pots because somehow mats are worth more than finished products
What exactly is the incentive for alchemy in SoD?

I mean, if you farm your own herbs and with transmute and potion mastery unlocked you can make mad gold with alchemy. It just requires an investment into it. Anytime you get procs from making stuff your literally printing gold.
One arcane crystal turns into 3 bars and that’s like 200+ gold from hitting a button. Take the mats to make 20 potions of some sort and half proc and you get 30? Well, you just printed gold.
Personally, I would rather them lean into transmutation a bit more. Like taking 20 herbs and turning it into 10 herbs of a different type. Kind of like Heart of fire to elemental fire.
i mean they might have just not datamined/previewed anything yet.
if they added the SoM procs to alchemy, then alchemy has already gotten super buffed and OP is silly
I mean, yeah, that’d be cool too
If they lean into alchemy being the gold making prof, that would be cool too I guess
But right now it doesn’t feel like.they did much beyond gate some material for other more useful professions behind alch, which just made people level an alt real quick with that +100% xp buff and plenty of dwell time
There’s not really anything that recommends itself for alch as a personal use steroid or gameplay changing additional minigame
Isn’t that a ‘chance’, though?
EDIT: Also, nearly every potion has a -30% profit, according to TSM. Which means you’re losing money most of the time due to the ‘chance’ of a proc.
well would you like them to remove the proc?
more potions exist because of the proc, so yes, potion price go down. it’s still a net benefit to alchemists.
My incentive is that my alt will get lucky and proc on a transmute, thereby saving me some gold.
That’s about it right there lol
If the potion costs more to make than selling. And the chances of ‘bonus potions’ is slim.
You’re better off just farming the herbs and selling them.
For example, looking at the Alchemist right now…
Elixir of Superior Defense; should be pretty ‘in demand’ for tanks…
Elixir of the Mongoose; should be pretty ‘in demand’ for melee DPS and Hunters…
EoSD:
Crafting Cost: 2g 64s 03c
Item Value: 82s 07c
EotM:
Crafting Cost: 3g 78s 90c
Item Value: 2g 14s 07c
EoSD, you must proc no less than 4 every single craft; or 4 as an average for each crafting session. EotM, you must proc no less than 2 every single craft; or 2 as an average for each crafting session.
This is why I’m truly confused…it’s like the Alchemists have no idea they’re either a) losing money or b) leaving money on the table - sure you can go and farm the mats yourself, but you could make way more by just selling the mats.
This is pretty much what I’m saying, minus the personal incentive part
I have an explanation also:
There are way more alchemists than herbalists (see my point about alts)
And they didn’t fix the botting problem at all, plus layers, so most herb farmers are bots
On the personal incentive side.of things, you got a flask that ONLY works in nightmare, so either ST or the grindhell mechanic that is incursions
Meanwhile crafted epics are BiS, almost BiS across phases from P2 to P3
Engineering has gotten a bunch of new toys, epic helmets, epic shield
Even enchanting has seen several new, interesting formulas or significant power spikes in old ones
Sulfuras is getting reworked/upgraded
Many endgame formulas for LW/BS/tailor/engineering getting upgraded
Enchanting at least got a unique steroid that’s usable everywhere, and it’s almost always paired with Tailoring because of insane synergy.
I can’t wait for that MC/Ony only flask to drop
Philosophers stone even had a lot of power removed, you don’t really need to pot anymore as DPS/tank, and honestly you have unlimited flash of light spam on tank/off tank with beacon/sacred shield. 78% crit chance on your Sacred Shield target, procs 2 hots on crit, and then the secondary target gets all that healing. Shock costs nothing and on 6s CD for emergency saves
Other healing classes in the same situation id assume except maybe mage
Most people are idiots, and are incapable of doing basic math. All putting procs into the game did was cause those people to lose money undercutting below cost, and screw over the markets for everyone who actually could do math.
Also, doesn’t help that the instances are stupidly easy, so actual consume usage per player per raid is low, which with dramatically increased supply of consumables via procs causing the price of finished pots to drop. Player population is also declining, so Demand is lower, and supply is higher causing price drops.
Finally, though they do still exist, bots have largely abandoned SoD because of a GDKP nerf (to be clear this is a GOOD thing overall on both accounts). Prices for mats where artificially lower previously because of bots doing teh farming, and on multiple layers… So the supply of input materials to make potions is lower, resulting in higher herb prices, relative to the pots they make.

You’ll make a killing on flasks shut up
Flasks:
-
Don’t make that much gold per item
-
Require travel to a cleared scholo/BWL, or clearing those places yourself.
-
Require DRAMATICALLY higher capital investment per item
Flasks are what you make when you have 1k+ gold sitting idle as a suppliment to potion crafting, because dumping that much of your gold into potions will flood/destroy the market.
But that doesn’t explain this phenomena at all.
If you can make almost DOUBLE your money, guaranteed, by selling the herbs. Why would you gather them to craft with?
You could argue that it’s the ‘bonus procs’ being sold. But that’s very hard to believe when there’s “half a grand” (quantity-wise) listed on the AH just for one elixir type.
I’m sure some ARE selling the bonus procs to make a lil coin from their time gathering herbs to craft potions for “raid night”. But, c’mon, 500+ listings; many of them in ‘full stack’ with multiple listings from the same person.
You could say it’s people leveling Alchemy and selling the potions to recoup some of the cost in leveling. But, again, c’mon, this late in the phase?
You could say that Alchemists are buying up the herbs to craft; driving up herb prices. But, then, why are they ‘racing to the bottom’ to sell their crafts?
I think what it is, is those listing ‘to profit from their craft’ (so crafting with the intent to sell) don’t have the necessary Tools.
What do you mean? Even if you don’t mention the thousands of gold I’ve made on elixirs and potions or the thousands of gold worth of Arcanite Bars I’ve made. Alchemy is BIS for a variety of classes.
The flasks are better than the armor in the dream. Sure not being able to use them outside the area sucks but because they stack on top of everything they’re pretty awesome. The gnomer potions can also be used everywhere as well.
You know there will be yet another new addition to discover in p4.
I’m sorry that you’re foolish and didn’t figure out how to get good recipes early in phases and print money but I guess its good to not have more competition.
