Can afflic locks get the true DOT master title?

I love warlocks, esp. affliction warlocks.
I played several to level cap, thinking I was all that with DOTs.

Then I played laser druid.

What
The
$#*%

They are the true DOT class, but they can heal and shapeshift and stealth and out dps us and everything else -

we’re a true dps class and yet a jack of all trades class can out DOT us any day of the week.

sad panda

Affliction definitely has more dot damage as part of their damage profile, especially hellcaller.

How many dots are you not using as affliction.

If you complain but don’t take Soul Rot, Haunt, etc then that’s kinda on you.

how do you know im not using those abilities? you’re assuming

Don’t look at druid for too long. You’ll only get increasingly more jealous.

Balance has 3. And if you’re gonna count Starfall then it replaces Stellar Flare so it’s still only 3.

Being that generous with numbers, affliction has 6.

Lol what? Starfall does not replace stellar flare. They also have mushrooms.

The hybrid tax is dead and gone.

A lot of people are playing classes for that singular spec they like and maybe alting 1-2 of the other specs… why should they be punished?

Balance Druid and Affliction Warlock are my two favorite specs.

I’m not sure either out-DOTs the other.

And I find that my Lock has great self healing.

The problem with Aff lock is not really whether or not they do more or less damage with dots than shadow or boomie. The problem with Aff lock is the quality of life is unacceptable. You spend your entire gameplay tab targeting refreshing agony because Blizzard can’t get their act together on vile taint.

Shadow can easily apply 2 dots to every mob in the pack every single pull and keep that going forever with zero effort and zero cooldown. Balance can easily apply 2 dots to every mob in a pull and keep that going with zero effort and zero cooldown, and if they want to apply a third dot moonfire will hit 2 targets per global.

Aff can get corruption up, but they cant get agony out unless taint is available, and taints long CD means that your agonies will expire unless you tab target re-apply.

Vile taint needs to lose it’s 30sec CD and the damage from its baked in dot needs to be spread across 24 seconds (like agony) instead of 10.

Does too

You dont take Stellae Flare in AoE
You dont take Starfall in ST

Those are the two that interchange with one another

Yeah but it doesn’t replace the spell. That actually means something different in this game.

Ive always disliked how they pushed malific rapture onto aff, yes it hits hard, yes it plays off dots, but it just feels bad.

In my experience, MR being the “big payoff” on your dots tends to make dots feel like a chore instead of the bread and butter of the spec. They are the vegetables to MR being the meat.

I vastly prefered when UA was the spender and you could overlap it, pure rot value!

Yeah, my first character was a lock back in TBC I think I had curse of agony, corruption and siphon life to apply. Even for a beginner it wasn’t too bad. We also had doom but it was like a minute long dot and I don’t think I ever used it for my content.

Now my lock is my least favorite character because it has to juggle so much and doesn’t really do enough damage to compensate

Yes it does, you replace it in your rotation

No, in single target you replace starfall with starsurge in your rotation since those are both the AP spenders, not stellar flare.

It really is kind of funny and sad at the same time that the Spec that’s supposed to be all about Damage over Time effects doesn’t really even come out on top for its DoTs, I would say multiple other classes do the same thing but better while Affliction still suffers from stubborn balance devs that refuse to realize that Malefic Rupture is a bad concept.

Assassination - All about poisoning and bleeding your target out, rewarded with Energy feedback loop for properly managing DoTs, major cool downs involve literally duplicating every DoT you have on a target for massive damage as well as another DoT that benefits applying more DoTs (Kingsbane)

Feral - Latest hero talent gives a replacement to Ferocious Bite on a proc that leaves a massive DoT on every target it hits, on top of the already unique Snapshotting and Bloodtalons buffs, cool down that literally makes almost all your damage add into a DoT

Shadow priest - More of a hybrid damage dealer due to profile being more psychic link/mind blast based, but basically like an improved version of Afflock in almost every regard (Shadow crash QoL beats out vile taint by a mile)

Affliction Warlock- Guess they have a pet tho (it tanks worse than any Hunter pet)

Credit where credit is due though, Hellcaller at least feels like a small breath of hope in regards to making it more akin to what they should be in my opinion
