Hi everyone, my necklace from the Great Vault (ilvl 463) comes with a socket slot in it. If I choose it as my reward, will I be able to add 3 more socket slots from the AH to make it 4 socket slots in total? Thanks in advance.

wait, is there any way to test it? I actually would like to pick this neck if I could insert 3 more gems into it, but not so sure if it’s the right choice with only 3 standard.
The answer is no.
All a neck getting an RNG socket does is save you ~500 gold.

The socket enhancements add UP TO 3 sockets, total.
If the item starts with one you just need one less enhancement.

okay, thanks for replies everyone. this system makes no sense, but hey, it is what it is 
it makes perfect sense. Each setting only adds a socket if there are less than the star rank of that setting already on that item.
Rank 1 setting: only if the neck has no socket.
Rank 2 setting: only if the neck has 0 or 1 sockets.
Rank 3 setting: only if the neck has 0, 1, or 2 sockets.
