So I’m throwing this out to general. I’ve been stuck of figuring out what to main for SL, and am looking for something to help sway me in one direction or another. First and only caveat is that it must be able to be a gnome. Currently have:
- rogue (original char since launch)
- warr (main since legion, but prot it looking pretty bad so far, SMF might win me over)
- dk (probably has the coolest transmogs)
- mage (diaper baby, but it’s cloth so not as big an impact)
- monk (all 3 roles is pretty useful, to stop boredom)
- hunter (easiest to do achieves and what not in older raids etc)
I’m probably leaning more towards something with multiple roles (I primarily pug stuff, kids make organised play near impossible), only really looking to play around M+ 10 ish and N/H raids.
Was hoping SL was going to go the way of Destiny 2 and have basically everything as account bound (with the exception of gear, that’s fair enough), but that’s a pipe dream.
Help me decide general, what is everyone else going to main and why?
Edit: to clarify I have each of the above at max level already
Go DK for the cool factor, Shadowlands has a lot of DK themes thrown around. And they’ll definitely 100% be good for M+10’s and Normal / Heroic raids, all the classes listed are.
Wut? Why is mage diaper baby? You’re getting class confused with race of junker gnomes. Mage as a class (Especially while leveling) is wow on hard mode. Only big strong alpha males roll mage.

Well if you enjoy being half developed I’d recommend Shadow Priest.

DK is looking amazing in SL. Frost is improved but UH is sooo good. It’s going deeper into the summoner play style. Gargoyle baseline, Frost gets the Ghoul too, new runeforges coming back so it’s not just fallen crusader, and of course other changes.
Mage is pretty bad right now on the alpha, to be honest.
The rest are in between.
I leveled a Mage.
I just 2-3 shot everything with Arcane blast to 120.
The Correct Answer is Warlock for Shadowlands. Once you go Warlock, you’ll never go back.
Locks a snooze fest in SL.
Honestly, just go with what floats your boat. I’m probably doing horrible dps as a Druid but am I have fun? Hell yeah I am! So you have time before SL drops just play one the first day then switch the next day and keep doing that and if one is boring you down, Mark that one off the list and move onto the next one.

I’ve been bouncing back and forth between classes too but rogue is most likely going to happen for me again.
If only Draenei could be rogue…
Druid because Druid is always the correct answer.
Of all those Classes you listed, id choose Hunter. They’re great for solo content, so i’m sure they’ll be great in Torghast or whatever it’s called.
Then go Monk so you can do all 3.
