Oh boy, it’s time for people that were avoiding spoilers to learn about the Dawnwell and the Silversun Compact.
(If someone can get Porter’s twitter version of this I’ll add it to the post, Twitter doesn’t let you see posts chronologically if you don’t have an account and I can’t win the lottery of it randomly showing up when I visit his twitter.)
An absolutely abysmal end to an abysmal main campaign.
On any other occasion, I might be against this kind of vitriol, but I can’t say this sentiment hadn’t crossed my mind on several occasions.
There’s just no way anyone involved in writing the main campaign had any love for the setting or characters, because it was absolutely not shown the care it deserved in any regard.
I wish the Blood Elf expansion wasn’t being written by people who have such obvious and unrestrained contempt for the Blood Elves. Every single story beat is about how stupid and wrong they are about everything. I’m terrified of what this means for the future.
I mean, I don’t hate the idea of the Silversun Compact, or the end of the Silver Covenant. Non-playable blood elf clones should never have existed as a significant faction in the Alliance; Wrath doesn’t get enough hate for that nonsense. And the Sunreavers are also a broken and directionless group in a post-Dalaran world. If elf unification boils down to Dalaran’s factions chilling out it’s really not calamitous development. And I say that as someone who’s wasted more hours than I care to tally arguing about the Purge since MoP.
But this is all so rushed. This was a tagline of the expansion. We gathered the elves in one week, and united them in two. And it only took that long because they gated the story!
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at this point, but the lack of care for smaller details is really glaring to me.
For instance, both Thalyssra and Shandris aren’t even afforded new text dialogue remarking on the Dawnwell - they simply repeat the same dialogue as before their offerings to the Dawnwell were made and that’s it. Oh well!
It would be fine (or workable at least) if they hadn’t spent the last several years making sure to spit on the Sunreavers and very specifically Aethas. The Sunreaver we fight in BfA, Aethas handing Felo’melorn over to bribe his way back into Dalaran, the cute little joke where he’s found naked while a banshee and a harpy argue over who gets him, the trading post bit…
And that’s just the Sunreavers. SC fans (like Porter) aren’t any happier.
On the plus, at least we know alliance thalassians will be welcomed in smc after midnight. Been looking forward to a new rp hub with cross faction rp. Since blizz seems to have rushed this with just three quests after saying it was going to take a few expansions, guess us rpers will have to rp out the nuances ourselves.
If you can’t see how bad outright having an answer for “which religion is correct” and that answer being “none of them, you’re all stupid especially those delusional tauren” is for the worldbuilding of the afterlife I don’t know what to tell you.
