Camera blocking foilage

Obviously it’s a little late in this expansions development process… But…

This expansion is pretty bad with having a lot of objects that block sight that the camera can pass through.

This really needs a technical solution using better camera behavior or to not put so many of these objects within the cameras max zoom range.

Reminds of the boat sails in Boralus which were doubly infuriating because why were those docked ships at full sail? Like you went out of your way in making no sense to put in an annoying camera blocking mechanisms.

Not the end of the world but its one of these little nagging game play experiences that makes the game worse and it get more annoying the more you put up with it.

Yeah, drives me nuts at times on a “pet peeve” level.

And I don’t seem to recall it being a problem in Azsuna, which is even richer. Now, I may be misremembering because I DO remember Azsuna being a pain to fly through.

Try turning down foilage in graphics settings if you havent already.

Agreed. It’s a giant nuisance.

That’s mostly ground clutter which isn’t an issue.

The problem goes beyond trees, especially in Torghast and Sanguine Depths.

All these ceiling decorations that get in the way and that one hallway bridge which has these spear walls that you can see through but oddly do block the camera and jam it into corners.

It feels like the whole game was play tested with a fist person shooter style camera.

Yes, this foliage blocking thing is a major issue, they needed to have done something about it years ago.

I think the issue is this isn’t a quarterly profit or yearly career review issue. A line item feature that can be checked off or used as feather in your cap. No one champions core play ability.

The problem is, if not addressed all these little annoyances build up over time and when there’s challenging situation like mobs leaving death AoE’s everywhere, AFK nag mobs continually spawning, and then your camera gets stuck behind something in the middle of a tough fight, when the player comes and complains about the encounter, was it the encounter or where they just so annoyed by a continual stream little nags that the encounter pushed them over the edge?

So you get into a negative feedback loop of even more questionable feedback.

It’s HORRIBLE in Spires of Ascension. Especially on the last boss platform. Can’t believe it made it to live.

Yeah, it’s not visually appealing to fix on paper, that’s most of the issues we have lately. Other games like Diablo, Pathfinder or Divinity have transparency effects when your character passes under some part of the environment.

I was going to mention this. The tree branches on the first boss are also a big problem.

They also have a ton of diaphanous drapes hanging from the pillars that manage to block sight, somehow.

I’ve always thought that anything that blocks the view from the camera to your character should fade to 25% opacity. Other games do this very well. I hate having to constantly zoom in and out depending where I am.

That’s funny be ause I thought Shadowlands was a 100% improvement over BFA in this regard. BFA dungeons had so many camera blocking doodads and cramped tiny spaces. Shadowlands is so much more clear and open by comparison in my opinion.

This is especially problemattic if you’re a class who has spells which use a targeting circle to cast out your attack…

so there have been times when my character has accidently cast volley, an ice trap, flare, etc on some foliage or whatever that just happened to creep into my camera view and my mouseover macro or whatever got cast on it.

Some of these Torghast towers are beyond belief at just how bad they are with the camera.

They’re like first person shooter maps. How many WoW videos do you see with the camera in first person mode?

It’s just inexcusable to design something and have the camera get blocked by decorations every 15 steps. It just puts the whole experience on the wrong foot when you’re continually fighting the damn camera.
