Calling all lore nerds

So admittedly I am actually kinda confused on what the lore is surrounding Dragonflight, why we’re going to the Dragon Isles, what’s the significance, etc.

Can anyone give like a brief synopsis on what the lore is surrounding Dragonflight/the Dragon Isles? It would be very much appreciated :dracthyr_heart:

Considering this expansion is over with the Warcraft series, almost everything you find (I would assume) is going to be new.

Otherwise if we try to tie lore aspects to that of Cataclysm… it really wouldn’t make too much sense, because Blizzard writing.

For all I know the aspects wanted to view “through mortal eyes”… and yet, here we are. They’re back in their dragon forms somehow.

Oh… and apparently the Dracthyr are super soldiers created by Deathwing. Maybe he’ll come back?

i think he evaporated when he fell in the maelstrom. he never came out the other end into Deepholme.

True, but how many times did Garrosh or Sylvanas come back?

We’re going with an expedition.

New place that hasn’t been seen in thousands of years? Why leave it alone?

The dragons are also going so they can turn their “Oathstones” back on to see if that will give them their full aspect powers again.

All while dealing with forces like the primalists. People and dragons that want to go back to how dragons used to be. Chaotic and free compared to the “Titans Order”. Dragons used to be elementals so that’s why some of the dragons look very elementally

Aspects go back to Isles after they’re unhidden like Pandaria (sort of). Primalist threat emerges, Dracthyr come out of stasis to help combat them, Primalists try to wipe out dragons, we all fight back, Aspects try to get their power back.

Very brief, very vague. Dont’ want to spoil too much. lol

I always thought they were like the trolls in that they lived among the elementals and the other stuff. They looked like protodrakes at that time (hence the name we gave the northrend ones that were not a part of any flight).

This new elementally thing were seeing feels more like a redefining of old lore than anything else because Blizzard writers don’t really care about lore and want to put their own unique spin or mark on things instead of legitimately building upon old lore to make interesting and coherent stories.

Pretty sure the dragons coming from elementals isn’t new. Its old lore

If I recall. The elementals that didn’t get yeeted into the elemental plane evolved into dragons

Aspects lost their aspect powers while fighting deathwing.

Dragon isles opens possibility of obtain their aspect powers back.

We assist them with this.

That’s basically the overarching narrative.

I don’t remember reading that anywhere? I need to go find this now, I’m super curious.

My understanding is that when we do the new wing of Uldaman starting on Tuesday, we’ll find Titan relics suggesting that there’s some kind of huge powerful thing on the Dragon Isles which, naturally, we want to go steal liberate before anyone can get to it first.

Apparently when Deathwing was killed his whole being was vaporized, including his soul. Would maybe explain why we don’t see his soul in the Shadowlands.

i can say to check out the platinum wow video on the dragonflights because he’s officially blizzard a content creator now, right?

so i would check out that platinum wow video on the dragonflights :100:

it gives a good breakdown imo

(I won’t link it cuz i think that might ruffle a feather or two) :eyes:

Memory is all a blur of reading wikis

I’m speculating that the overarching villain of Dragonflight will probably be Galakrond, with the Primalists either resurrecting or reincarnating him somehow.

OH! I found it! It’s in Chronicles Volume 1!

Edit: I glossed over it, because back then, I had no interest in proto-drake lore.
