Having seen what Blizz just did to MoP it’s now utterly obvious that the Classic team despises casual players. They’re designing specifically for the most toxic, tryhard min/max obsessed type of players who treat the game as a job.
So expect this exact same approach to any kind of C+ project. I don’t understand it, but…they hate casuals. They hate the very type of player that made this game the monumental success it used to be. And they adore those who’ve made it a toxic nightmare.
On top of that, they have no interest in creating an experience authentic to the game as it was. Now obviously in regards to C+, it’s not going to be a #nochanges type project. But the goal should still be to capture a similar experience. Which means embracing the design principles of the time, and for the masses of players who enjoyed the style of the old game. You can make plenty of changes to the game and yet maintain a similar design philosophy to Vanilla. But they’ve already abandoned that with things like Megaservers. Server communities were a big deal back in the day. They don’t exist on these servers. Then there’s layers. The World was the star of the game back in the day. Now it’s just a carved up ruin. Obviously C+ will continue with these terrible Megaservers. Where you also can’t have any kind of fun, unique world content. Something that could be epic and memorable and unique. Instead, it’ll just be the same old routine raid grind.
I’ll tell you right now what C+ will be: an e-sport driven game designed for the most toxic, sweaty players with zero server community. There you go. For people who loved the Old Game…look elsewhere.
I’m rambling a bit, but I’m irritated the the Classic project has been taken over by a team of ‘devs’ who have no respect for the old game, or for the old players, or for those who fought to get Classic in the first place. The ‘devs’ seem like they wish they could be working on Retail, so they just pretend they are. So there’s your C+ future: a crappier, less polished version of Retail. Made for Retail players.
The Classic team has been telling me over and over that they don’t want me (or any casual) as a player. Fine. Sub is up. Just waiting for the forums to figure that out.
A posting character is just that. It has zero relation to in-game. The forums should just have a generic 1 forum avatar per account, so players can’t swap between alts. Which I don’t do. I post on 1.
Anyway, C+ is completely doomed. Unless you’re a toxic, sweaty Retail player. Then you might love it.
Yep they hate normal people. They desperately want their little relationships with streamers and the e-sports groups at the expense of the game dying.
They are blinded by their personal desires and are ruining WOW to get them.
Classic Plus is going to be a miserable failure if they don’t design it for casual players.
They keep trying to make the game hard for no reason. No one wants a hard classic experience.
Only the degen e-sports wannabe players want this and they are a tiny tiny fraction of the POTENTIAL player base of normal people who might return to WOW if it was made easy and approachable.
The war is over, man. Casuals lost. That’s been obvious with every change the ‘devs’ made over the years. And looking at those questions on the survey.
For whom are they even designing? It’s the guy who tells you to jump off a bridge in a dungeon group because your talent choices aren’t perfect. That is the player they want. Now just imagine a C+ designed for that toxic sweaty playerbase.
Let’s throw the Token in so everyone can now legally buy gold and have even more boosts. And then Mythic dungeons because it’s not like there’s already a version of WoW built for that playerbase. “We can do it better than Retail!” has become the Classic team’s mantra. They’re going to find out in C+ that…they can’t.
It really is unreal how out of touch these clowns are. SoD fell apart near the end. Players said why. And what did Blizz do? Double down on the failure.
I’m sorry to hear that you will not be joining us for Classic+, Zaalg.
It’s unproven that you were ever present for Classic from 2019 to present day, but it will be very sad for Blizzard to lose you when they don’t release Classic+.
Alliance shaman and horde pallies. Yay to faction homogenization! Can’t have any kind of unique experience between factions.
1v1 duels? Right, I always felt this game needed to be balanced around 1v1.
New character models? Who wants that dark, gritty warcraft style when we can have disney design for 3 year olds.
Pet battles? Who doesn’t love Pokemon?
The Token. “We refuse to hire GMs to police the game, so here’s the Token.” Which inevitably increases RMT anyway.
Player housing? Get ready for a cash shop selling decorations.
I could just go on and on. They’re asking all the wrong questions.
Yeah, they destroyed their credibility with this survey.
Any respect I had left for them is nearly gone.
They can’t make a classic plus. They are not the right people.
Here is an example of a similar situation. Say someone asks you to paint them a painting in the impressionist style of a completely new scene but you instead paint them a painting in the abstract style.
You completely failed at your assignment. No matter how good the painting is. It’s not what they wanted. You didn’t do what your audience wanted.
It doesn’t really matter. It’s just the latest in their trend of eliminating authentic systems and replacing them with Retail-like ones. Which is the same approach they’ll take to C+. That’s the point.
I read a bit about it just now. Looks like you are correct, they are re-working MoP quite a bit. I can understand why those that like MoP would be upset…
Perhaps, but I’m not convinced the survey was about C+. I believe it was more centered around a Classic Season featuring TBC content. I could be wrong of course, none of us know, but some of the questions (ie ally shaman/horde pallies, race/class combos, etc) make me think we will get Era TBC and Wrath servers, with a TBC season and Wrath season in the future.
What’s in a name? The survey refers to it as ‘a new version of WoW Classic’.
If it’s even real. Maybe it was a great hoax. But I can still look at everything else Blizz has done to Classic and see the direction they’ve been heading, and no reason to think they’ll ever change course.
