That’s why it wasnt a megaserver.
None of the Era servers were.
Megaservers only reason im not bothering with vanilla anymore.
Why kill one of the few reasons people clamored for them, away from the anonymous and atomized structure of retail?
For what it’s worth, you there’s a small community over on Grob who is the very opposite of megaserver culture. There’s only maybe 100 of us total on the entire server, but there’s no RMT and you can actually go out and play the game. Also, with the recent removal of Free Character Migrations off our server, I would expect the Whitemane export trade via bots/farmers to dry up.
It’s a great place to be if you’re looking for a small, tight community. I believe a similar thing on the Azuresong cluster if you’re looking for a slightly larger crowd. I don’t know much about what’s going on over there though, but it could be something to look into.
This is why I want Classic+ to consider providing an alternative to mega servers. So many of the issues that are causing friction in the player base are occurring because WoW simply was not meant to scale they way it has. That small server vibe of WoW is often overlooked or brushed aside, but it’s crucial to the experience that makes WoW stand out for so many.
Every version of classic has dead servers so I don’t know why anyone is specifically asking for something that already exists. Classic+ will have dead servers from the start, as the majority of MMO players seek the largest realms to ensure the best MMO experience.
For clarification here, this isn’t true anymore. For both SoD and Anniversary, Blizzard only released a single realm for each type, PvE and PvP. SoD started off having more options but I believe they’ve either been closed to new character creation or merged.
Blizzard’s current approach to server structure is to have everybody play on the same realm based on type. Assuming this is followed in C+, there will be no dead realms down the line unless the PvE or PvP realm dies off in its entirety.
I just checked and it shows two realms locked but the rest are open (SoD.) I was able to create a character and login to Lone Wolf just now.
Two people online, myself and a level 60 Mage. Lol.
EDIT: 0 items on the AH. Legitimately 0.
You’re right, it looks like there’s a second PvP realm, Lone Wolf, that has been allowed to persist. I’ll take you at your word that it’s inactive and has nothing listed on its AH. You do have to admit it’s kinda weird that they didn’t close it off like they did the others though. Their intentions to have a single realm of each type are clear and discounting the outlier of Lone Wolf, this is consistent between SoD and Anniversary.
You’ll note that both Chaos Bolt and Lava Lash have been locked to new character creation. I actually have Era guild mates who actively play on Chaos Bolt that I can’t join because the realm is looked. Those realms are exactly what I’m asking for here. Instead of leaving them open and low pop, Blizzard closed them. When they iterated on this for Anniversary, there was no such opportunity.
If Classic+ is going to be a thing, there needs to be places for those smaller communities to thrive.
Yeah.
If people want to play on a low pop or dead server Blizzard should let them. I don’t know why they would lock some and leave others open. Put a warning up that the population is extremely low when people make new characters on it.
