Buying things online

Go take a marketing class and educate yourself. And no, it’s not scarcity.

See this to me is within the realms of fraud, and the reason I say this is because if I can prove that a store is only selling 1 of’s and claiming there aren’t any left. You buy the one thing they say isn’t being made any more and then come back the next day and they have 2 or 3 now for sale that would be the store owner creating a false sense of urgency to purchase something they claimed was rare and therefore scarce.

Still at it I see?

I attended business school and I am fairly well educated. You’re right, this is ‘artificial scarcity’.

And yet you know nothing about in game shops, marketing or the difference between limited time availability and scarcity.

There is nothing evil or wrong about limited availability in these shops. You’re just trying to create some made up drama and excuses to find justification to sell an account illegally.

The reason why I make a big deal about this is marketting ploy’s like this do 2 things

  1. They make the consumer feel like they are being used in order to drive some kind of purchasing impulse. This does not bode well with most people as the player base at the moment feels as tho they are not getting there monies worth out of the game as it is now.
  2. This discredits any good will that the player base might have towards the company in general as they are being treated like mindless consumers who have lots of money and will spend it on literally anything.

Nope. That’s just hyperbole.

I mean if we want to pretend like the shop actually offers anything of value then why couldn’t you turn around and sell your account later down the road? It is evil, because one day the money you put into purchasing those pets, mounts, anything are going to go away. When the servers get shut down and there is no way to play the game legally any more all those things will not matter any more and instead you would of sunk your money into a pit.

Also I meant artificial scarcity.

As I said in my first post: People are already aware of this.

You should ask the school for a refund.

Because you don’t own it and it’s against the rules.

No it isn’t. And welcome to every online game with a shop ever.

Would have. There’s no such thing as “would of” in the English language.

And if you don’t like it, don’t play online games with cash shops. The rest of us are perfectly fine to toss our money at pixels.

Yeah they’re digital items, they have to remove them to make room for more digital items. They’re running out of infinite space in the digital store.

Exactly. This is the point im trying to make!

Hmm.

A lot of people dont seem to undestand how basic businesses and MMOs work.

Despite what some people may think, “space” is a visual thing as well as a physical one. If things are never removed from the store but they continue to add things (which they will), sooner or later viewing the shop will become an unmanageable mess.

Blizzard, as well as the law, does not.

You could also believe that apples are oranges, but I still don’t like apple juice.

Video game laws have to be made, unless they are covered in a way by other laws. I believe a game like this is covered by standard subscriber agreements, same as with a Cable Company. Your Cable Company, has the right to refuse you service if you some how misbehave (pirating cable, if you can even still do that these days, etc.)

You, or your Cable Company, usually can dissolve your partnership at any time (for any reason.) Neither of you has a long term contract with the other.

This is the same thing, since there are no laws in the Blizzard subscriber’s favor, as far as owning his virtual “bytes” goes; Both parties have a simple subscriber agreement, which either party can terminate.

They don’t have to prove anything, as far as selling the bundle for a limited time and then having those items no longer appear on the store; They can do that with anything they feel like, in the same way that Disney often only sells a DVD of its movies every few years (then BACK TO THE VAULT!)

There is no law saying they have to sell those items for all time, to their limited subscriber agreement customers, nor that they can’t bundle them in a nice sale before they “go to the vault!”

I got 3 mounts, plus 3 helm mog things (already had the pets) for $38 bucks. I’m not seeing something to complain about.

I’m not sure that you know what “Anti-Trust” means.

It’s as if no one knows how marketing or game shops work in this world.

The store has been there for ten years, its not like the items are taking up that much space, they don’t have to rotate stock.

I get the idea of what they are attempting to do. I also think it’s treating the player base like they are just mindlessly going to throw there money at the screen for things that don’t drastically improve the game. We’re talking about selling off art assets you don’t get to keep and sell later if they go up in value. It’s like selling a painting to someone but then telling them they aren’t allowed to sell it and when the original artist decides he can at any minute take the painting back.

Oh i get that it’s a marketing strategy, i just don’t really care, there’s a lack of interesting topics on the forums today, I didn’t even bother reading the op. I think i’m going to go clean or something.
