Buying and Attaching a Physical Authenticator

Probably a lot less than you’d realise.

Or the return of investment in doing so is not worth it.

This also isn’t a decision made by Blizzard. It was made for them when the fob manufacturer ended their supply agreement.

I also prefer the older OTP devices, though I retired mine ages ago.

Good luck.

You can always try this:

Yeah no this would destroy the authenticator theres no possible way to change the battery without damaging it beyond repair.

This was my favorite part.

But in all seriousness, I still have a physical authenticator. I also realize I live in 2025 and have an iphone and may eventually need to make the switch. Could someone who has already downloaded the mobile authenticator choose to give away their old physical one? That way Vonreichter could have a physical one (obviously with a much shorter remaining lifespan) and the donor would still be secured by the mobile app. Or is the physical device locked to the original account forever?

But then what do u do when that one dies rinse and repeat sooner or later you wont find one that still works.

I’ve been on the internet for long enough to know how to pick my fights. I’m used to the mockery and scorn by now, and I won’t give up on something I believe in just because people think I’m wrong for not joining the majority without thought or question - so long as sticking to my guns won’t hurt anyone, that is. Hell, I could count the number of times my lack of a cellphone has caused me any sort of notable inconvenience (such as this whole issue) over the past decade on one hand. Needless to say, I’m doing quite alright without one.

But I digress. In regards to your suggestion, while it may work in theory - provided that physical authenticators can, in fact, be removed from one account and attached to another - it relies entirely on someone being generous enough and invested in my situation to the point that they’d mail an old keyfob to a complete stranger on the internet just so he can keep a pet in a video game.

Now, call me a wizened old cynic if you must, but somehow I doubt that’s going to happen.
